Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Morning all, everybody give a warm welcome to my new friends, stewies chicks... I met them at Agway yesterday.

Welcome you guys, if you're not already crazy we might convert you. Great group of peeps on here. as I told you at Agway they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I'm so glad I didn't scare you off.

Been working like a dog (make that a mother hen) . Went to the eastern Long Island quilt show this weekend and Peconic herb farm. I so love that place. Christina and Pip I have to get you there one day. I brought home more plants. I have lost my mind.
Christina, I went to a tag sale while I was out East and I was like a kid in a candy store. If I were a dealer I would have offered the guy a lump some for the whole place.

Bio, my friend Loretta has been having the same problem with her beans. I shouldn't say it out loud, but mine are fine.

Have a nice Sunday all

Hi neighbors,
All well in chicken world, but not so much in my garden...everything is going gangbusters except my beans...I've sown three sets, two different varieties, but they look awful...shriveled leaves and kind of stunted, if they break through the surface at all. I have one plant that I bought as a seedling and planted that is doing well, but it would be rediculously expensive to buy my usual 20+ plants as seedlings. At first I was thinking slugs, but that's been eliminated, must be some disease in the soil, but no other plants, including my peas, are being affected. My next plan is to try to germinate a batch in potting soil and transplant those in a few weeks, but maybe you guys can save me some time....know of anything going around? If it's going to be a bad year for beans no matter what I try, I may as well pull them and put something else there, space is at a premium in my 8x16' plot!

Yeah, my beans are doing poorly this year also. Asparagus, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, corn all doing well. Beans not so much.....

Hi Carolyn

I just want to introduce myself and say hello.

We are neighbors!!

I bought a house a couple months back 2 blocks north of Atlantic Ave

I am trying to get a few showgirls from Roberta to start off, I am going to PM her to see if there is an update.

So if you ever need any help, I am probably like 5 minutes from you

I got a pretty good green thumb too, I just planted some hostas, bleeding hearts, fox gloves and some canna lilies.

I hope you are feeling better

How wonderful to know that there's another backyard chicken keeper so close to me. Please give me a phone call and maybe we can arrange to meet. I'd love to see your setup and show mine to you. I've got eight "girls" now. They're all adorable. Two are in "jail" for being such bullies to my two newest little frizzles that I got from Roberta. I'll send you a PM with my phone number.

About a week or so ago, I found a recent BYC post that I want to respond to, but I can't find it. It wasn't in our Southern New York forum, but I'm not sure where it was. It was from someone who is keeping backyard chickens somewhere in my neighborhood, i.e., in the Merrick, or Freeport, or Baldwin, or Rockville Centre, or Oceanside area. (Note: I did just find and respond to the newbie DOUGNASH post; but there was another newbie and that's the one I'm trying to find.)

Any ideas?
