I wouldnt lie to ya. The stuff is really great and you will see a difference in the girl's feathers and their general appearance and health.

You really have to taste it to be convinced, though. It might become your Breakfast of Champions.

Increasing the size of the run is probably the safest bet. Poor Bobby....

Congrats on being a first time chicken mom.

You'll find quite a few from LI here, and will be able to get lots of help if you need it.

Again, Welcome.

I became a chicken nut in late August when I got my first chicken. She's ready to start laying any day now. It's all very exciting!

I LOVE having chickens - they are fascinating to watch and listen to. My girls (5 in all) never stop "talking" - from outright squawking to "muttering" under their breath. I find myself constantly tweaking things like feed and the coop, etc., etc.

There are a number of us here from LI - don't hesitate to ask ANY question. I've gotten so much help from everyone here.

I was thinking of heating some up with a little milk. Chicken granola!

Poor Bobby, indeed. We spent another romantic dinner discussing coop improvements.

You know you're a chicken addict when you stop off for hay and alfalfa cubes on your way to dinner...

from Ridge! I have found there are quite a few of us out there, but some (well, most) of us are a little over the legal limit.
You will soon learn what "chicken math" means. There are quite a few terms that will confuse you, but don't be afraid to ask, or even PM us.
We are all in it to learn, and have fun!
Congrats on the babies, and if you need any help, just type away!

Oh, and Suzanne, thanks for the offer, but you should know if you want to help me haul food, to at least buy a trailer for the back of your car!!

And Toxic, I just re-read your chicky list. If that Silkie gets picked on, which it may (it is the only bantam, and a funny looking one at that) I can set you up with a few Fuzzy friends for it.
Or you can make her a house chicken, but you would have to replace her # outside with another girl...
Here we go with the chicken math!
And if any wind up to be roos, which they occasionally do, I can find him a place to live.

Suzanne, romance and chickens, perfect! It just doesn't get any better than that.

I have to say that all the animals we have here, dogs, cat and chickens have made this more of a home than a house. There is something to be said for man's best friend, and all the other living things we surround ourselves with. I don't know if it is the nurturing aspect or what, but having living creatures to care for, and in turn receive their unconditional love, does something that others who do not have pets can never understand.

Yup, we're all chicken nuts here. Some were always that way, and some of us became that way, but, we are better for having gotten there, IMHO.

So true, Al, so true!

I opened the back door to let the dog out this morning and there was Gladys, squawking away. I left the door to the nest box open all night!

Of course, I panicked, but everyone was present and accounted for. I left the door open yesterday to put fresh hay in the nesting boxes and then forgot to do it. While I was putting in the hay this morning, Gladys came up to me and squatted next to me. I reached down and scratched her back for a few minutes. She jumped up into the nesting boxes and poked around in the hay. I closed the door to give her privacy just in case.

Haven't been outside to check. Don't you admire my restraint??
