You know when you go into a store, and the computers shut down, and everyone stands around because nobody knows how to make change?
That's me. I shut everything down...
Roberta, you weren't in Huntington today, were you? Couldn't use my credit card at DD and then the remote on my car wouldn't work. Went to use the ATM and it was down.
Definitely checking into the crow thing!
Al, thanks for the insight into the winter buffet. I'm thinking of adding a few additional feet of covered run for the girls. And a bow and arrow for the hawks.
My name is Vanessa. I am helping Megan to coordinate in putting a chicken feed order from Countryside Organics later next week. If you all would like to order some bags, let us know! They also sell rabbit and cat/dog food too and are cool with adding other things to the pallet so have a look on their website ( http://www.countrysideorganics.com/home.php) to see if there is anything else you need.
We are going to have to get prepayment from everyone for the feed this time around..things are tight over the holidays. If you feel comfortable doing a paypal transaction or credit card, Megan can send an invoice for your order.
Soybean-free organic layer mash is $26 a bag, there was a $1 increase in cost but this also includes the cost of freight. Soybean-free organic scratch feed is $21 a bag. This is great stuff to feed to your chickens in the winter when they need to fatten up and it also helps to stimulate foraging. If you are interested in buying any other items on the website, please add $2 (freight cost) to the price.
Pick up would be at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm. As a suggestion, Megan only put in an order every 2 or 3 months so if you can stock up, consider doing so.
Just a reminder: it may take a week to 10 days for us to accumulate enough orders/payments to send off to countryside (we need a minimum of 44 bags, and up to 50 or so.) Once the order is in it usually only takes two days to arrive, so a date for pick up would be set then.
I'm glad you posted this. I have been using Countryside Organics for many months now and it is the only feed I use. It is fantastic. My girls are still laying at an egg a chicken a day. Must be the food.
I was trying to order from Megan in the beginning, but the trip was about 70 miles one way, so I pay the freight from Countryside to me.
Let me tell everyone, this is a great deal if you can pick up from Megan. Last month I paid $23.50 plus $16.50 shipping for a 50lb bag. Even at $40 it is worth it for me to feed my small flock. At $26 a bag it is a steal for this soy free organic feed. I also use the Countyside organic scratch.
I support Countryside organic feed because I know what's in it and how well my chickens do on it. I also am happy to support local people when i can, like Megan, who is well known in the chicken world, and has done quite a bit to promote keeping chickens in Brooklyn and beyond.
Thanks again Vanessa, and say hi to Megan for us. We hope she will drop in one day to say hello.
