Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

We had an awesome family party yesterday. Huge tray of baked ziti, turkey breast, pot roast, etc. etc. I have sooo much food left over. I won't have to cook for the rest of the year (get it?).

The best part was having my younger siblings here with their families. And my cousin and my mom and my daughter's boyfriend and his mom, etc., etc. It was well worth the expense and all the work. Bobby was my hero - did all the vacuuming and most of the cleaning and cleaning up afterward. I just ran the second load in the dishwasher and washed a couple of pots. And now I have a clean house and a ton of food and the week off. Life is good!

I gave my cousin 3 of Gladys's eggs. She's the one who originally gave me Gladys because she found her. Her boyfriend used to raise chickens, so he's excited to have a REAL egg omelet. I also gave my mother 6 eggs from her "grandchicken".

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. It was a great few days for us!

To anyone considering coming up to the NEPC show in Mass. next month Jan 14-15
It looks like I have put myself in charge of the BYC member table.

However, so far there aren't alot of volunteers to man the table.
Nifty-Chicken (Rob) the boss man creator of BYC has offered a 6-month GFM upgrade for everyone volunteering for at least one hour.
I was gifted mine, and love it!
It will be a place to sit and relax, and talk about... CHICKENS!
Anyone who has been to a show knows a place to sit is rare.
And there will be handouts, bumper stickers, buttons, cards, tattoos.
Please let me know if you can come and help out.

Just had a hawk buzz the chickens. I was looking out the deck door and saw this huge hawk glide low over them. Luckily they were in the run. It flew into a tree about 20 yards past and we tried getting a pic of it, but it flew off before we could get the camera.

Scary. I haven't seen any around lately, so I've been letting the girls out at around 11 every morning. Right now my biggest problem is rats. And squirrels. *sigh*

Only one egg today. Gladys was on the nest but the egg was Agatha-sized. Who knows?

Hey, Roberta. I'm definitely still giving serious consideration to the West Springfield, MA, show, and would totally spend an hour working the table if I go. My only concern is the weather ... "whether" I go or not is really going to be weather-contingent. If the weather's good, I'm much more inclined to make the drive, but if it's snowing/rainy/icy, I'll definitely skip it. Driving from LI to New England is *not* fun in lousy weather!

I'm totally hating this time of year, with the short days, as I get no time with the chickens. When I open up the coop in the morning before leaving for work at 7, they just start to stir. By the time I get home at 5:30, they're roosting for the night and I just close 'em up and fill the feed and water. At least on weekends we still get some time to interact! At least we've reached the point on the calender where the days *are* getting longer -- Bring on spring already!

George, I feel the same way.
We've been lucky it hasn't been too bad of a winter... YET.
I get very depressed this time of year.
I feel the same way about driving, but I pretty much locked myself into this one.
STOOPID!
