Welcome to the thread! Near the Nevele - Ellenville, right? My family had a cabin in Callicoon when I was little. Love that area!

We're not always this outrageous. Sometimes we just get into these crazy discussions. I'm sure you've checked out the coops page. I started a page for the coop my boyfriend is building in our backyard. We're almost finished - I haven't updated the pictures in a while. I got lots of great ideas from the coop designs here on BYC - just tweaked them to my own preference. Like I use plastic "underbed" containers under the roosting bar to catch the poop. Real easy to just dump them into the composter.

What breeds are you considering?

Yes, near Ellenville. Not the same getaway up here it once was. Many of the summer cabins and camps are run down due to the economy and all. The Nevele just changed hands and the new owners hope to reopen it with by passing a law that allows Casino gambling.

Considering (don't know all the abbreviations used here) Barred Plymouth Rock, Black Australorp, Red Star (Red Sex Link) & Buff Orpington. What'd you think? Any suggestions?

I have a wedding which requires travel in late May so I'm worried I'll really have to take what I can find when I'm back from the wedding. I really can't get started with baby chicks right now and pick-up and leave in late May.

Mail order places look like they are sold-out weeks if not months in advance. Any ideas where to get chicks or started layers when I get back in late May?

Trivia: The Nevele was so named because the original owners had eleven children. Get it? Nevele spelled backwards is eleven!

OMG that is SO CUTE!!!!!

Maxx, I'm heading up your way on Memorial day weekend...Irish festival in East Durham. We go every year! (It's like a pilgrimage for us)
I adore the catskills, and as a child my family and I stayed at the Nevele, The Concord and Grossingers. I remember having a good time, but I was pretty young.

I know East Durham... a wee bit past me ya might say. Do they sprinkle oatmeal on your Guinness for ya? It makes skipping lunch so much easier.

Here's a picture of my little baby in her "chick bra". "Chick Sling"? She seems to like it. She got very perky, then fell asleep. Now she's pecking at it and me.

You realize that if she turns out to be "he" (and survives), one of you is going to have to take him. I would only give him away to one of my BYC friends!

PLEASE NOTE: OBJECTS IN PICTURE ARE SMALLER THAN THEY APPEAR!
Very nice!

And I like the chickee pouch too.

Hi highpointfarm, I went to your Blog link and saw your posted pictures! Very cute! Great photography too!

Since your kinda close to me in Port Jervis... Where did you get the adorable chicks?
thanks for the love =] I actually got some of them back in february from efowl, But my newest batch I got from a feed store in sussex NJ... Not sure how far that is from you.... Also If you find a Large hatchery that has the breeds you want (even if they are "sold out") If you ask them to keep you in mind, They will usually call you back in a few weeks if not days with a cancellation etc...

Is my iPhone screwy?
Why does max have AL's picture.

Anyways I will have a bunch of chicks end of
May early June.

Cute chicks
Chubby chicks
Crazy chicks
Lazy chicks
Girl Chicks
Boy Chicks

Yep. I will have em.

Sussex is not too far, just with the mountain ranges, etc. It's easier for me to go to Warwick and get to Sussex from 97(?) I think the road is... go past Vernon onto Sussex and yeah I guess it becomes a haul.

Anyone around here to avoid in terms of buying chicks & chickens? Like run and don't look back avoid this seller?
