I can't have Roos

But you can have a chick
I would love to, except for the fact, I really dont feel like raising anymore chicks... Already did 40 this year, and I just got everything put away, as well as I would need to find 2 other chicks to live with it....

Karen and I are both hatching eggs on May 25 or so. I'll have Light Sussex and White Orpingtons. You're welcome to some of my chicks. I only plan to keep 1 hen of each. Of course, I have no idea how to tell hens from roos until they get bigger.

Speaking of which, I'm watching Lavinia to see if she shows any roo signs. But her feathers are coming in the same way the other girls did and other than having big feet, she seems to be just like the other girls.

We finished the additional run area. I put in some branches and a hanging basket. Gonna put in a swing and some other activities. I decided to keep the birdbath but forego the fountain - too complicated. I planted some shrubs around the run to make it look more like part of the yard and less like a zoo exhibit.

I'll post pix so you all can tell me what you think.

I've already locked the girls up. So far, no serious complaints.
I'll have mixed color orpingtons hatching on the 14th
Wheaten Ameraucana (blue egg layers) on the 20th
Barnevelder and golden cukoo marans on June 1st
Welsummers sometime in June (my eggs haven't arrived yet)
You are welcome to some chicks Im only keeping one of each
You're both very nice. I think I can come up with chicks if I search locally... Long Island seems pretty far away when your up in the sticks up here.
I've been busy building and have not had time to look.

I think I may have to get chicks no longer needing lights and constant monitoring due to my random work schedule.
I need some girls who can go right into a run and living quarters unless my job changes.

But I do thank you!

Well, there it is. Still have to hang up some activities for the girls and paint the front door. We can't decide if it looks like a chicken coop or an exhibit at the Bronx Zoo!

That is Amazingly beautiful. It looks like a granny's country cottage.
I love it

What color are you gonna paint the door?
Lavender? For Lavinia. :D

Love it!
Bonnie died this afternoon.

The good news, is when I went to check on her, she had some kind of brown goo running out of her mouth.
Her crop did feel funny, maybe (hopefully) just a crop infection. Not contageous.

I have a pip on one orp egg!

And Carolyn, don't worry, your girls are in the house. I didn't want anything to happen to them, after how hard it was to get them!

Roberta, I'm sorry about Bonnie. You did the best you could for her...

What kinda orps are you hatching? Did I miss that?

We went to visit Peter this afternoon. Our old coop is perfect in his yard. Your two birds are looking fine, and getting used to the kids. The three chicks they got from the 4/11 hatch look great and are extremely tame. For a while, I was sitting on a bench with the three of them under part of my jacket like a wing.

I got a bunch of eggs, and those are the ones Karen is also hatching.
Just spreading the eggie goodness.
They came from Beth G, you met her at NEPC.
