Hi! I'm Suzanne. I'm out in Huntington. I'm always interested to hear about the "city folk" and their chickens. I have very close neighbors and very noisy girls. So far, no complaints, but I worry constantly.

I have a Black Star, a Golden Comet, a Rhode Island Red, a Barred Rock, an Australorp, an Easter Egger, all laying right now. 6 eggs almost every day! Warming up in the bullpen, I have a Buff Orpington, a Speckled Sussex and a Silver Laced Wyandotte, all hatched 4/11, from chickensforbackyards.com. I have a Lavender Orpington who was the sole survivor from my first incubated hatch (May 1). I also have 3 Light Sussex and a White Orpington from my second incubated hatch (May 25th). I'm only keeping one of the Light Sussex and the White Orpington, if she turns out to be a pullet. One of the Light Sussex is a rooster, so he and one other will have to go. Things are getting mighty crowded around here. No roos allowed and I'm only legally allowed 8 hens.

So that's all I have. Eight.

Stick around this thread - we have a great bunch here. Lots of fun!

Hello, I'm in flushing queens and just started raising backyard chickens. We have 4 chickens - a buff Orpington, barred Plymouth rock, a white rock and a partridge. They are 10 weeks old and we just love them. My husband built a beautiful coop. I've been trying to pose pix but I still can't figure how to post them on the site. I'm so glad we took the chicken plunge. They are so much fun. They have a nice size run 5' x 11' and I let them free range for about 1-1/4 hours which is usually when they go back to the run for food or water. They have a 5' x 4' elevated coop. My husband made the run 6' high so it is so easy to clean. My neighbors have been great and I can't wait to get my first egg. Love to hear more about your chicken.

Hi there!

I have a White Rock too, we named ours J. Lo - thank my 3yr old for that. We started with just 4 hens almost one year ago today, and I'm fully addicted already. :) Good luck and stick around!

Here's Chipmunk's crowing practice:

I think these baby crows are hysterical! I forgot to take pictures after I dropped him off, but he was in a 24hr isolation cage on a nice patch of grass in the lawn. Four bigger boys were coming by to check him out, but they all seemed to be fine with each other and not fighting. Maybe if you don't add hens into the mix roosters can get along just fine?

Tiana and Nutmeg together in their baby pen. Tee-tee is looking so pretty now that she's feathering out. Maybe she was looking for Chipmunk or maybe she's just mad being put in the baby pen again, like a middle school kid being forced to sit at the kid's table for Thanksgiving or something.

If you have a smart phone-you can post pictures from it using tapatalk. That's what I do, because I'm a little slow in other computer stuff.

Welcome to the Southern NYers Thread. (Doesn't it sound like we live on the Bayou with gators?) You're gonna enjoy it here-we have a lovely bunch of coconuts, er, members!!

You do a mean rooster imitation!!

I thought Chip was a ventriloquist.

Tiana looks like a sweet girl, Nutmeg seems somewhat comfortable being that close. My litttle girls didn't get near my bigger girls for a few days at least!! They would squawk every time one came near, then dive for cover.

I'm beat. I got up early and cleaned out the coop completely because we're gonna be away. Then I worked 10:30 to 1 and went to the stupidmarket. I thought we were going to my mom's for a bbq coz my big sister is up from NC, but SURPRISE!!

My mom thought they were coming here. So I cleaned, cooked, installed the new a/c and sweated. Thank God they were late!

We had a really nice time, but then it was clean up, laundry and packing for our trip. Still have 2 loads of wash to do. And so far the packing consists of bringing the suitcases upstairs.

And we decided to go to Lake George to visit with my sister and brother in law coz his band is playing on a boat for the 4th. So we're staying over the 4th in Albany, then home on the 5th. My cousin's wedding is on the 6th and since I'm performing the ceremony, I better get my youknowhat in gear by then.

But Bobby's been great. Worth well more than $9.99...

Looking forward to our alone time.
Suzanne; Does your sister go to that yard sale that takes place in Oct in Lake George. Maybe just south of Lake George. Suppose to be the largest yard sale in New York. I have tried several time to go and something has always come up.Have wanted to go up on the Thurs before and come home Sunday morning. Stay on the lake and have a relaxing time. Maybe this year... Hi there, and welcome! I think you got bit by the same chicken bug that got most of us. You'll like it on this thread if you want to have fun, learn a few things and hang out with a bunch of chicken nuts.
