Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Actually, Al, it's not.  The village itself was sort of scary:  lots of loud, drunk people wandering around.  It felt like a riot waiting to happen.  I guess it's because it was the 4th.  I've been there other times and it's not so bad.  But the boat ride was awesome.  My brother-in-law's  band is terrific.  We even did some dancing!

Great pic. At least the view is still nice. A shame that it may have gone to pot. It used to be very well policed even with the drunks. We were crossing the street there when our kids were young and a group of teens were in front of us dropping f-bombs. Two officers driving slow on the street and the one in the passenger side jumps out and yells, " I heard that." You in the whatever color pants, get over here now. He tore them a new one, and I was rather shocked, but tourism is what they depend on. This was back in the 90s so things apparently have changed. It wasn't too bad 7 years ago. At least we did not notice, but we were in bed at an early hour...us old folks.

Hey Carolyn252, how are the girls? Are they still girls?
Hi !!

Been swamped here for the past ten days or so with family in from all over for our annual summer reunion. Everyone's flown or driven back home and I'm alone again in this big house with DH and the bunny rabbit and the five chickens in the backyard.

Been stripping beds and doing laundry over and over again. Broiled salmon last night and raced out for five minutes to put the girls to bed and came back to a very small but very smokey fire in the broiler. Salmon's fat + the olive oil drizzle had lit up and gave us quite a scare for about ten seconds. DH threw two dish towels down into the broiler and smothered the flames.

Supper was yummy nonetheless.

I posted about five photos of Laverne and Shirley on the "What Gender Is This" board, and the unanimous opinion was that they are indeed females. They've got tiny little wattles starting. Really just a line of bright red at the jaw line.

They wander freely with the big girls now, not really integrated; more like parallel play. And they all sleep in the same playhouse coop --- the big girls stay at one end, and the pullets are at the other. As far from each other as possible.

They are definitely bigger than when you brought them over. And they're learning to follow me, so I can usually lure them into the ChickArena if needed. Instead of having to outsmart them with wrapping the portable fence around them and then leaning in and catching them in my arms and carrying them into the ChickArena.

Note to everyone that may be using PayPal for helping cj: if you use the "gift" option, there's an added PayPal fee; if you use the "services" option, there's no fee to send the money. I figure that cj's helpful service to everyone over the years makes it morally justifiable to call it payment for services rendered. Just my humble opinion.

I was thinking about the Silkie thread, But I am afraid to divulge such personal information about someone on the thread. Still thinking about how I want to do it.
It's not me, and she is quite well known, so I don't know how to handle it.
I did put something in the Showgirl thread. Along with a miserable story about one of my babies.
Ugh.
The ivy, or whatever it is, isn't too terrible.
Loyds shoulder is on the mend, they just put him in a sling and sent him home.
I think he has finally figured out how p*ssed I am with him, and he has been pretty good.
Still not working.... but they said about 2 weeks for him.
Me,

still trying to decide what I want to do when I grow up.
Roberta, I don't think ot's a good idea to put cj's business out there. Intentions are well and good but it is a public forum and she might be terribly embarressed. Just mho but I am putting myself in her shoes and I wouldn't be happy at all seeing my troubles in print for all the world to see unless I was asked about it first.

you mean nothing but the best for her........maybe just keeping a lower profile and hoping folks can do what they can is good. We can brainstorm more....maybe an auction or some sale items withthe proceeds going to her?

As painstaking as it is, PMs are probably the way to do it. I did look up her website and she has comments on BYC of how wonderful she is. I hope we can help.

Good that the DH is on the mend.

I'm done working and I still can't figure out what I ever really wanted to do. Maybe I just ain't grown up yet either.

Yes, Maggie, exactly why I haven't gone too far.
Carolyn, so glad to hear I haven't disappointed you.
Al, thanks for the support.

Hey Carolyn, maybe you can show up at the Queens fair... The drive shouldn't be too terrible.

Toxic, how's the coop coming?

You're right; I just mapquested it and I can get there almost entirely by streets, not parkways. And DH said he'd like to go too, so he'll do the driving. So hooray. I hope to be there. I've put it on my calendar. September events are tricky to schedule because of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur but the Queens Farm Fair date misses them both. Great.

And, btw, even if Laverne and Shirley had turned out to be Laurel and Hardy, it wouldn't have been YOU that disappointed me. YOU've been a peach!!!

So thanks again.
