Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hi everyone, room for one more??? Stoopid told me about this thread a month ago but I just can't seem to get past the home page on BYC- soo many posts to read! This site is so addicting

Anyway, I'm in Mattituck on the North Fork of Long Island but I work in Brentwood so I am not far from everyone! I have 60+ chickens (chicken math plus we also do the "don't ask don't tell") and I love everyone of them. I am patiently waiting for my first egg

but my girls are taking there sweet time (oldest is only about 20 weeks).

Everyone here seems so nice and I feel like I know everyone already- I read through 60 pages to catch up! Stoopid- sorry about your silkies and peachick

, I now hate hawks- I lost a mille fluer d'uccle a few weeks ago to one and dh saved a polish girl yesterday from another one

Because of this thread I am now looking into Countryside Organics, I use the Nature organic one from Riverhead Agway and had no idea Soy was bad. I am also going to throw them a pumkin tonight, never knew chickens like pumkins, lol- can't wait to watch chicken vs pumkin

I love this pic- one of my younger girls kept getting kicked off the "big girl" perch so she decided she would not get kicked off if she was on top, lol.

Welcome! Always room for more!! Yeah, when I first joined, I was overwhelmed. Still am, so much info here! Love the Spitzhauben 2nd pic down. I have a few myself. The girls are real sweet.
Wow, Mattituck to Brentwood? That must suck, especially in the winter.
Plan on going to any shows? There's one next week in NJ. I HIGHLY recommend it, had a blast last year!

Hey, you changed your username! I was wondering how many people were in Mattituck with that many chickens. I like this name much better!

Hi Trish, glad to have you drop in. The more the merrier!

Nice looking chickens you have there. Glad Roberta knows how to identify them. I'm totally lost on that point.

If you are looking into Countyside Organics you will find it a great feed. We've been using it for about three months now and it is really good. You do need a deep feeder as it is basically like a mash and can get thrown around, but our girls love it. I also mix in about 10% UltraKibble to their daily ration. The goals are healthy and we'e been getting an egg a day from each of them, still.

All the best,
Al

Hey everybody, thanks for all the well wishes. Still feeling under the weather, because of the weather. Should be better once the sun comes out.

Thanks Stoopid

Funny that you love the Spitz's too, I sold a bunch of Black Coppers and Silkies recently and everyone that came to my house LOVED the spitz's and people were offering me lots of money for them, lol. Methinks I will have to breed a few

The commute does suck but I just use if for some down time, nice to just space out for an hour (and think about my chickens). Kids have a dvd player in the car so they don't mind to much either.

I think my dh would kill me if I left him home with 3 kids while I went to a chicken show (BUT IT SURE IS TEMPTING, LOL)
Oh, I finally got to see the pics of Clyde and he sure is purty!!!!

Well that farm offer still stands, in fact, talking with you made me think there really is a market for our passion. It looks like I'm going to be hatching out lots of babies this winter. And I have a spitz trio. They were on some kind of rare breed list, made me wonder if I should try to perpetuate the breed. I am not sure about SOP or anything, but they are so cute. This is Nikki, my boy.

I think we really can work together and maybe even make some money!
