Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Does it seem these temps and weather are making your garden go crazy? I have so many tomatoes and it's only Mid July! My plants look like Decorated Christmas trees!! My Pepper plants are literally falling over from the weight of all the peppers!

My girls have all dug themselves holes under the huge forsythia bush out my back door, and they all stay there until I walk out with a treat.

Today I have to go to Ridge to pick up free Mohair yarn I found on Freecycle, then pick up my son from Football conditioning training, then buy more hay and chicken feed then clean the coop and hen house. The BCMs seem to be having a moult. There's black feathers everywhere! I'm considering collecting the nice ones and making jewelry with them. They are really pretty, and teenage girls love that stuff. I hope to be done with all of this by noon, but it seems in the heat I'm moving in slow motion.
It's just too hot and humid today! I was outside for an hour watering chickens and roses....and came inside drenched in sweat. Got ready to take a shower and it started to thunder. I skipped the shower and plan to stay in the living room with a/c for the rest of the day.

In the last two years our school athletic league adopted a rule that if the RealFeel on AccuWeather is 95 degrees or higher...games will be stopped and no practices will be held. Too many problems for the kids with dehydration and heat strokes etc. Sounds like your school league should adopt the same rules.

It is horrific out there. We just registered at 103 in the shade and I KNOW that has to be true.I picked veggies and couldn't even stand the heat. A big thunderstorm just raged through andI stood out in it thanking the powers that be it happened and got myself drenched...... I do hope and pray you all get relief where ever you are.
It is scary hot out there. I am thankfull tomorrow looks to be better but no promises being made.

Tina,
I am gonna pm you so keep watch.

The problem with HS Football is that if they don't get a certain number of practices-they can't play-NYS law. It was 80 at 8 am, so it wasn't truly bad. They practiced outside for an hour-conditioning, then inside for an hour for weight room. It was almost 90 when I picked him up. Not awful. That's why they do it early in the morning. Come August it's twice a day for 2 weeks before the first scrimmage. 8-10 then 7-9. I know they bring water, douse the kids with water (DD's boyfriend played) and my sons only complaint was that the water was warm. Tomorrow he's bringing a cooler with cold water and gatorade. He still came home and carried the bale of hay and 50lb bag of feed into the shed. No rest for the overworked and underpaid.

I cleaned the coop, which wasn't that awful-I just raked up all the hay, put down the DE, then fresh hay. My middle son picked up the hay and put it in the garbage bags. I changed all the food and water containers, scrubbed them out, got soaked in the process which felt GREAT, then gave the girls a tray of ice cubes with cooked corn on the cob in it. Pretty funny watching the grab and run games.
I'm going to shower before starting dinner, I have hay stuck to me in places hay should never be.

I went for a massage (I had 2 credits at my spahhhhh). I feel very anxious and jittery today. Gettin' a little squirrelly, I think. Then I beat the heat by...wait for it...shopping! Didn't spend much, but bummed around a couple of stores. Even went to Pier 1, which I've been dying to do. I love browsing around in there. I found these cute little white ceramic balls with letters and symbols on them. Got N and @ for Laura's boyfriend's sister, Natalie. Today's her 16th birthday. I got a beautiful little glass owl for Laura (her birthday's in September) and a squawking rubber chicken for her boyfriend (August 18th). Everyone should have a chicken!

Big storm passing through right now. I tried to herd the girls into the coop, but they were having none of it. They're hiding out in various places around the yard. I just hope the winds don't carry them off...

Can't wait for it to clear up. Fireman's fair tonight!

Oh, I forgot about those required practice rules. My hubby and I were the presidents of our soccer booster club and we had parents pitch in to bring cases of water and gatorade to each practice and game. That way, all the kids who forgot their bottles at home still had water an electrolytes. After awhile the coach encouraged us to have parents load up his office with the drink cases, so that he could just carry them onto the field or on the bus.

I just went out to check on the girls. Only the big girls were still outside, but they were easy to round up - mealworms, anyone??

Laura told us the parade was cancelled, and the fair probably will be too. Plan B is takeout Chinese. That ought to do wonders for my diet. I've lost 5 lbs. in a week. The haircut and blood donation must have helped...

Tina,
I am gonna pm you so keep watch.
Lately, I'm on here alot! So, I'll look for a PM.

Guess what? I just took the plunge and put a deposit on a beautiful Blue silkie pullet that did well at the Boston show. I'm waiting to see if another lovely pullet from the breeder is also available. I should know over the next few days if the second pullet will be available. I am going to surprise my daughter with the Blue pullet as an early birthday present. She is going to be thrilled!

well my kids are taking it upon themselves to coexist .When I went out last night to close them up. the 2 silkies and half of the babiy EEs were all in the main coop.
the babies have been climbing into one of the trees it is hysterical. One of them just kept climbing higher and higher then flew/jumped out.I'll have to get pictures today.
if anyone is going to the NJ state fair I think I might go one day. It's a lot closer than the state fair in Syracuse .Might be nice on a weekday after the traffic burns off.
