This morning's conversation:

Me: "My cousin is coming tomorrow."

Bobby: "You should go to the beach. The last time you went to the beach with your cousin there was an earthquake."

Me: "And I came home with a chicken."

Bobby: "That's right. Forget the beach."

That's what I've heard too. Hmmm. Anyone know where I can get a Turkey Poult? From what I've heard the Bourbans are really outgoing. Odds are this would be just about an inside bird for awhile. (Man is my cat gonna be mad! He's already terrified of the chickens.

I don't think they're any noisier than my BCMs that insist on "alarming" every time a squirrel gets too close. Freaks. I'm not going to be eating THIS turkey. I'm considering meat chickens, but I have to convince my daughter to stay living at home if I do.

I'm going to make my kids help me. Maybe it'll persuade them to treat their stuff better. Usually by October, the wires are coming out of the spirals and all the pencils are broken in two with no erasers.

Again. Freaks. I think I'm surrounded by them.

Get a Tom Turkey - they are great at protecting the hens plus they won't breed with them. Then again, he might try to breed with any stray wild turkeys that come through though.... ah whatever, get a Tom and have it for Christmas!

So yes, we have internet again and phone service, and all the in-laws have retreated back to their corners or lairs in some cases but alas I'm still sick and feeling lousy. I self-prescribe ice cream and bad television for 15 mins!

I got an egg this morning with no shell. Or rather, the shell was next to it, shriveled up like a used balloon. I wonder what's up with that, probably just pullet hijinks or J. Lo's wacky egg factory again. I wish I could spend enough time with my hens to know exactly who is laying what and when, but alas I get to do things like clean up poop in the living room thanks to the puppy and 1,000,000 beads thanks to the preschoolers. I need a weekend alone, forget 15mins.

Oh so sorry to hear about your troubles! I hope your father in law's surgery goes well. Columbia is very good, that's where Bill Clinton went for his heart surgery I believe. Plus if you are at the one in Washington Heights you can visit the Carrot Cake lady's shop. Cake makes everything better at least for a few moments.
Cake! I need cake!

I have several colors! Black, Bright pink with strands of colors, aqua (this is bright and gorgeous), grey (medium soft grey), Deep maroon, and deep maroon with multi strands, deep teal, and a dark dark olive with black sparkly threads running through.

Let me know what you want and we can meet for the trade and a cup of coffee!
I'm free every day but tomorrow.

Maybe we can coerce some other chicken ladies to meet us and have a real coffee klatch. I could use some girl time.

UUUUgh. Every possible chicken illness all at one time. WTH is going on?

I can't even decide which to treat first. I keep a clean coop, change my shoes, keep others out, quarantine newbies (and those are rare additions anyway), keep a close eye on them. Geesh. I imagine it is because I freerange and live next to a wetlands (so many wild birds here). Well, I am going out to see who in the flock needs what. Might be a few weeks before I get back on here. At least all of the youngins' are healthy. I think those that were dropped off in the "chicken drive by" and mingled before I could catch them and get them quarantined might have brought this in. Why do people think they are doing you a favor when they dump extra chickens in your yard (and don't even tell you about it)?

Add to it my father in law had a heart attack and is now at Columbia having surgery

, we had to cancel our vacation plans for this week to attend to my mother in law (first vacation we would have in 10 years)

... I am a cranky pants, sorry to vent. At least we have our health, my bills are paid, and my garden is loaded with tomatoes... better to try to keep it simple I guess.
Oh life just

stinks sometimes. You've got a plate full going on and I hope it all clears up real fast.

I've had times like this myself. If you can switch into what I call "survival" mode for awhile it may help. I go hour by hour and adjust my priorities and activities based on who needs me the most at that moment. I just focus on getting through it all. And if you can stay calm while you are carrying on....it goes a bit easier. Hope everything eases up for you.

EXCELLENT ADVICE!!

Here's a birdie picture for you all. My niece, Lily, encountered this bird while swimming. As my sister said, she probably charmed the bird right out of the sky. This goes out to you, Heather, my favorite bird nerd...
