Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

That's the one I want too. Don't they sound fantastic? My son was reading about them-that's how he decided to ask for one. Wish I could find one now, but everywhere seems to be out of season. (Didn't know there was an actual turkey hatching season.)
In Lakewood NJ is a guy with a farm my friend found who has a few poults. He sells many different varieties of chickens, rare pheasants etc. He works till 3 pm everyday but is around after that. Also on weekends for $5.00 farm tours.
She bought a white Polish/$15.00...buorban red for $10.00.
It is a 30 minute ride from my home. She was amazed at the hundreds of chicks in his brooders. Seems he's been around a long time and has a very nice set up.

Yes you can use hay and straw in a compost pile. However, if you bought the hay or straw with a lot of seeds, those may sprout next year. But your girls may have eaten the seeds, and if your pile gets hot enough the seeds can be killed. I put used straw in my compost, once can always mulch if they sprout...

I put the straw from the nest boxes in the compost pile along with the pine shavings and chicken poop from the coop. And grass cuttings, leave, kitchen peelings, etc. etc. Between the compost pile and the leftover-eating chickens, I'm saving a fortune in garbage bags!

A beautiful morning. Bobby's going to the US Open with a friend so I get a little time to be alone with my to do list...

Good morning all; I hate to rain on everyone's turkey parade but before you purchase one you should look up the disease"blackhead" . It is caused by a parasite carried by chickens, with the eggs being passed in the feces and contaminating the soil. Can be deadly to young turkeys.
I'm sorry, you can take the girl out of the lab but you can't take the lab out of the girl.
I read a lot about that on the threads here on turkeys. It's actually held meback from getting one in the past. Do you believe medicating with that fish tablet available is helpful in avoiding it entirely?

I've seen it, it's great.
So far the breeders I know have answered Sweetgrass and blue slate. They say you can see pics on Murray McMurrays site, as well as Feathersite.
I never knew there were so many different colors of turkeys.
It looks like there will be way more toms available, I don't think they are any way like roos as far as crowing.
But I have heard some getting as big as 70lbs.

I don't know what breed that was....

I called a place just now less than an hour away from me in NJ and he has a 3 week old poult and some older ones available. Bourban Red and Bourban red blue slate crossbreeds. How beautiful they are......

what are your people asking for their birds?

Part of the 15 pounds of peppers I picked the other day. Organic purple beans and the plant they came off of. It is growing over the AC.
