We decided to homeschool because we were faced with the decision between 85 vaccine catch up doses or say "God told us not to vaccinate". I have problems with both of those options.Since I work from home we decided to give this a try. So far so good. Lilly is on day 9 of her curriculum after 3 days of time served... I am arranging a "homeschooler day" at space farms sometime next month. Should be fun. We will be discussing taxonomy (not taxidermy
) and then sending the student groups out on a scavenger hunt of sorts to categorize the animals they come across. Should be a fun day.
Daisy made it through that crazy weather and is actually feeling better! I cannot believe it, I have never had a sick chicken make it before. I did start them all on antibiotics just in case AND dewormed AND deloused AND gave supplements... I figured that if I can't eat the eggs for a while I might as well take the opportunity to worm them. As it turns out the 3 that got sick may have been eating the pile of white faced hornets that were in the grass after being exterminated. I asked my neighbor not to use poison, but apparently he did and it took a few days for them to fess up to it. He was also "kind" enough to destroy the nest that is on my property (not that I asked), right behind the coop, so I suspect that is where they may have gotten into them. Of course, it could have been some other thing, but it is just a bit on the coincidental side, don't you think?
Yesterday I got the tiniest egg ever! It was smaller than a quarter. I am guessing it was a silkie pullet egg, but I didn't know they were that close to POL. I have to figure out a way to post pics on here from my phone... I can't wait to crack it open to see how tiny the yolk is. I might have to cook it just to see what it looks like. Lilly thinks it would be perfect for a fairy's breakfast
