Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Almost forgot my pretty marans mix. She looks like and eagle!

Any ideas on special names anyone!

And her rooster pal same birthday. He is a pretty guy.

and lastly a cuckoo pullet. she's got feathered legs. The other 2 are clean.

yes! LOL And her markiongs are more of a partridge type than cuckoo. She was that little odd colored fluff ball I had asked you about when she hatched oput. She had tans/brpwns/black/white colors and was so different.

Heather, my sister gave me these bulbs from her garden. she lives on the Jersey shore and had hundreds!! It is an amazing site to see. They get planted after fear of frost is gone, like any other bulb and when it begins to warm up they sprout right up. I [prefer the ground now as they do require frequent watering in the pots. The ones in the ground I seldom gave water to.

She then digs them up from the dirt and brings into a warm dry place for winter after they have died back late fall. Or you can bring in the potted ones if you've got the space in the house before first frost.
They seem very hardy once they get started and a lot of folks round here have them. I am hoping mine has lots of little baby bulbs sprout in the dirt so I can make an entire live fence of them next year by my stone wall..
They like at least 1/2 a day of goopd siun and mine are even in full blazing sun by that wall all day long.

Here are some in my herb garden which gets some partial shade then late afternoon sun.

So we went apple picking yesterday at a nice place in North Salem that also keeps chickens, goats, and alpacas. All the animals looked happy and healthy but I couldn't believe how freaking adorable the alpacas were. They look like giant teddy bears. They were of course also selling the fur, the yarn, you name it. I had to take pictures for you crafty folks and I knew it would have been a disaster for y'alls budget had you been there. Luckily I know better than to assume I can make anything other than a scarf so I stopped trying ages ago. Hey, I can cook....

This shawl-type thing was so lightweight and yet cozy feeling - I thought it was the perfect wrap for fall and it looked like a simple pattern to follow.

you can't imagine how soft this is!

The natural colors were the best. Luckily my youngest didn't get a glance at the toy alpacas because I would have had to buy one.

Heather, you're killing me!

Bobby wants to raise alpacas. He and my brother (the beekeeper) have a good-natured fight going on about it. The first time my brother gave us honey, he turned to Bobby and said, "Where's my ****** sweater?" So of course I had to get him an alpaca scarf for his birthday! (When we got our first egg, we sent my brother a picture with the message, "Let's see your bees do THAT!"

Well, chicken drop-off #2 went well. Not so nice neighborhood, but a very nice family. $20 for a LS pullet. If you're keeping score, that leaves only Leon and Mary to be rehomed. The guy from NJ backed out, so I'm considering my alternatives. Leon is still not crowing, so I may try to wait it out until a show/fair and try to sell them as a pair. Otherwise, Leon's going to have to be dinner for someone and Mary will go to one of the guys who bought the other two.

Apparently, my roosting bar is designed for 10 fluffy butts. Because now that there are 12 chickens out there, only two are sleeping on the shelf. It will be very neat and orderly when the last two go.

Bobby uncovered three huge bins labeled "yarn" in the basement today. uh oh.

Silly boy. He wanted to know why I bought more yarn if I had so much yarn already. I tried to explain, but I should have just said, "Why do you buy more headphones, when you have so many pairs of headphones already?" So now I have to make him a scrap blanket for the bed.

Speaking of which, I cleared out some of the yarn I bought recently. Half hour at Michael's, a stack of receipts the size of the Bible, money back on my debit card and a huge store credit. Shopping bulimia.

I heard about Flushing Meadow Zoo today. Heather, we may have to go. They have a room where parrots fly free.

Tomorrow's project: clearing enough shiRt out of the garage to be able to get my father's old Army trunk down. I'm considering painting it and using it in place of the coffee table in my little room. More places to hide yarn.

Here's a photo for all you chicken lovers out there:

(I believe that's Roberta on the right)

Yes but did it cause you to look like Angelina Jolie all day is what I want to know? And should I consider doing it on purpose?

I've done the same. (Bee in a can of soda-at the outlet stores-why always when I'm shopping??) It made me look like Bubba from Forrest Gump, NOT Angelina Jolie. Maybe I was doing it wrong?
