Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I still have her . She was hatched last Nov. gives me one light brown egg pretty much everyday. She does a rather intense egg song after everyone also. Today she was so covered in dirt you would not have believed it. I really need to carry around my camera more.
LOL...well tell her she looks awfully purdy so nice and clean in her pic.

Thank you for the welcome, still waiting for my chicks....can't wait to begin.

Hi Sally!

You'll learn a lot here. When I was new to chickens (was it really only a year ago?) everyone was so patient and helpful with answers to my many, many questions.

I see from your signature that you've already got the chicken math down.

Next we'll teach you all about yarn math, fabric math and how to ninja things into the house...

And Roberta, a/k/a Stoopid, is our Chicken Fairy Godmother who makes all our chicken wishes come true.

Welcome to the new folks!

I've been away for a week and am thrilled to report that one of our Easter Egger pullets (from Agway) laid a large blue egg today! It was a nice little present after a long day of travel. We have 10 young pullets in our little flock and we are starting to get 3 eggs a day on average. I don't think they are all laying yet, but it is neat to see brown, green and now blue eggs.

Quenchick, Arnica will work wonders for your bruise. I use the oral 200C strength pellets from Boiron. I also use the gel or cream externally, but I prefer the pellets. Arnica is a homeopathic remedy that can be used for humans or animals.

Smkchk, glad life s good! I'm sure you will do all on your exams.

Stoopid, good luck showing your birds! Take pictures please...

Good morning all....Well the quiche is in the oven. I can't believe everything I get done when Richard isn't around.
I fell last night while doing SHiRT in the garden and now have a purple bruise the size of half a dinner plate. I have never seen one so purple.I'm lucky I didn't impale myself with a stake. It wouldn't have been a pretty sight when Richard got home on Sat.
Suzanne ,Good luck tomorrow
Roberta , Good luck tomorrowhopefully I'll see you there.
Jeanett, the chicken Lorretta brought home from the poultry show ended up being a rooster also.

Suzanne, are you still on for the Wool festival in Rinebeck in a couple weeks?

What's the date? I have a Civil Service Exam coming up. I have to check when.

I'm off to my tests. I packed like I was going for the weekend. I figure I'll have about 3 hours between tests, so I brought my crocheting (of course) and lunch, etc. Of course, I'll probably just nap in the car. If I was being tested on being well-rested, I'd flunk. Couldn't fall asleep until about 1:30 am and then the buzzsaw was going all night (still is) and my alarm went off at 5:15.

Kill me now.

I feel like in two short months I have completely changed my opinion of keeping chickens. I went from thinking n'never in my lifetime' to ...'someone hide the phone or I might order another' . I'm really looking forward to it, and really didn't realize how much chicken keeping will help in the garden and teaching my son a healthy appreciation for food and pets. Ninja things into the house? Interesting ... :) can't wait!

Looking forward to having chicken friends, since most of my current friends think I'm going crazy now lol, that or I'm suffering some kind of post partum that is making me want to mother 13 baby chicks.

Have a great weekend all! ....and where is this flea market? Hehe....

Well home from the fair... Saw Roberta, she looked like she needed a long nap. When I first askedif it was her she looked at me as if she did not want to give up that information. I was going to follow the question with " No I'm not a cop or with the IRS.". It was a great little fair .im definitely going to enter some things next year.
