Here we are in day 5 without power. Laura and Mike just headed out to get gas (hopefully) because fd/pd get priority status at Hess. We've been limiting generator time because gas is so scarce.

I got 4 eggs today, which is a miracle. Rhonda and Aretha are practically naked, and Wanda's looking a little ratty too. I let them out to free range today because they've been cooped up so much.

We barbequed tonight, so dinner was nice. But I dread the sundown and worship the dawn now. I'm dying to do laundry, that's how bad it is.

The new, small Hispanic supermarket in my neighborhood was fully stocked, so I spent some time hiding out there acting like everything is normal. Then I came outside and remembered. Ack.

Tomorrow I have to wait around for a call from Budget Rent A Car to see if they will have a car for Laura. The day before a major hurricane is no time for a car accident!

Hmm well I know someone that had a fender bender on Thursday... Oops! Guess a tree hit her, lol! I suggested she roll a big log onthe roof and try for a brand new car.

Beautiful kids and K-9.... I was just on the Stone hill barns website yesterday I forgot to order a turkey from them .Couldnt get anyone . I'm sure they are sold out. I know someone that's going to be in the "chicken coop" when their husband finds out.their Burbon Red was the best I've ever had. I love that place. I just don't get up there nearly enough.

Ugh. I hate reeeeally cold showers. I'm sitting here on a gas line. I'm only1/2 mile out so hopefully...
Anyhow, no electric isn't all that bad- it's like camping in my own home. Ok, the kids are losing it and have been playing with the firewood while stacking it. My husband came home 2 nights ago but had to get back to the giant mess that is NYC.
On a bright note, May and Diva have both laid eggs every day since the storm. Did it scare the eggs right out of them? Maybe. Lol. I hope everyone is safe and warm.

We have tree lift off! Theymoved the tree and we can get out of our driveway now! Allstate says they will be here in two days...I'm worried about this snow/ rai with my roof in the shape it is. So my chicks aren't chicks anymore...they are huge! I feel like they doubled in size this week. My dh thinks they are scavengers because they eat everything I offer them and clean the dishes. My BR is so friggen sweet still. I miss them now at they are downstairs. A few of them are very timid...should I force them into being held or let them be? So last night my husband said I might be better off buying a prefab coop. I was really sad....we already purchased everything to rebuild our shed and turn it into a coop. He is afraid he won't have time until January now with all the work piling up and the storm producing such a need for his type of work. They have mandatory overtime. He suggested I buy two coops for the girls until next year when he can do the shed remodel. So I'm debating if I should purchase them or just keep them in the house until he starts having weekends free again? Am I crazy? I was thinking having extra coops is never a problem....lol it just means I will have extra space...but I hate the expense if I don't need them. Ay suggestions on companies?

My coop came from here. The woman that I bought my coop from purchased it through them. I like their lean to's as well. Your husband probably has a truck to pick it up as the shipping is what kills the price.. the coops are expensive enough.

There is also this place closer to me that I was looking at a few weeks ago as chicken math is starting to go off in my head and dreaming of another chicken coop and run to have a spring flock of some coronation sussex and buckeyes. I am also asking santa for a pair of Cream Legbar! Hope he brings them. he he..

COWS gosh I want to live in the country.
Hope those of u without power get it back soon.

I'm wiped out. Spent the morning taking the reef in
my aquarium apart scrubbing, dipping corals in iodine
soln. Stiring up the sand putting everything back. Lugging
buckets of new salt water ugh. Time for a nap. My arms
feel like rubber bands. The things I get myself into because
Impulsive nature. Never decide on a whim " it will be cool
to have salt water fish" although that's how I got into chickens
too at least that turned out good.

Duchie (Duchess) is a Bouvier des Flandres. They look like giant schnauzers or Black Russian Terriers but they aren't either, lol. They are herders and general purpose farm dogs from Belgium. She is very good, solid gold disposition. The stuff she puts up with from the kids is just amazing.
