I didn't see any other blood spots, and I lifted her wings and she seemed ok. Would there be another way she's injured that I couldn't see?
Geez.....i kept calling her Peanut! LOL My little Sebright's name was Peanut.
Sorry bout that Nutmeg.

I'm sure she'll be fine. If I know you, you went over her with a fine tooth comb by now.
It's likely more fear she's feeling now than pain.

Oh my, Roberta, that looks awful! No, Nutmeg didn't have anything like that on her, she just lost a few feathers. I keep checking on her and she is eating and running around like normal, no moping in corners. I think it was more like a big fright for everyone concerned.

Yes, exactly. Well I didn't poke at her too much, I didn't want to upset her further as it was, but she did calm down quickly as I held her. Maybe once they go on the roost I'll take her inside and get a more thorough look at her again.

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS! I just had a Cooper's Hawk PICK UP Nutmeg, my Sebright Bantam, and try to fly off with her! I was washing dishes so luckily I saw it through the kitchen window. All the hens started in with skwaking and alarm calls and I looked up and thought just, "HAWK!" I ran out, left the kettle on and the water running and yelled to the puppy to come too, not that I had to call her, anytime someone runs she joins in. Ran out and there were feathers everywhere and I could see Nutmeg in her talons above the ground! Holy cheese balls. I guess the dog and I startled the hawk enough to make her drop Nutmeg though. When I finally got her inside to have a look, there wasn't but a tiny scratch on the top of her head, next to her comb. I washed it off and rubbed some Vaseline on her and popped her back in the coop where I found two full-size hens crammed next to each other in the nesting box. The dog and I rounded everyone else up and shut them back inside. Geez.... that was a little too close for comfort...
Oh sorry! Glad she is ok. Maybe you could give her a few drops of Bachs Rescue Remedy and take a few yourself? I'm happy to help restock birds. Even if lindsey & i don't have any chicks to contribute... I can pay for some from your local Agway. Just let me know who Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So, I guess I'm adding the incubator to my christmas list...

I really want to hatch some babies anyway. If I hatch in early January, I could theoretically have them outside by April...I do have the enclosed porch to help them to acclimate to the cold too...Who am I kidding? They'll become house chickens, and then what? I spend my money on chicken diapers and turf for the porch...
I was drooling over the CL eggs, and maybe some silkies...maybe some more BR's and BO's too...

I'm like a chicken crack head.

My name is Rosie, and I am a chicken addict...I last had chickens, um, NOW.

...dang it! We are in the car driving to Williamsburg, VA. We are hitting road bumps and my finger keeps hitting send. lol

I think I'm starting to hate New Jersey...we just CRAWLED thru the stare on the NJ Tpk. Took us triple our normal time and we just finally crossed the Delaware Memorial bridge. Hallelujah!!! We should have passed Washington DC by now. It's gunna be a long nite...

Autocorrect is killing me with these bumps. I should have saved some of the corrections for the Ellen Show. :-)

How silly would I sound????

Ive actually been wondering about some spring peeps myself......and omgosh..... what KIND this time around!

I really like "pencilled" birds and partridge etc. A white orp is likely on the list as well.

Truthfully it's so easy letting the broody moms do all the work. BUT....the drawback is the peeps are not at all tame like hatch/hand raised are. Not even close..........takes them a long time to let you gain their trust and come close....even handing out treats. They don't seem to ever want to be picked up and held either. I prefer friendly birds.
My little incubator peeps (2 at 4 months old)are now out with the bigger girls. They still all come runnng for me to pet them and hand feed them.

Does anyone have a delaware hen? I really like mine! I have 1 that was a gift and she is becoming beautiful and is really friendly.

Well...have fun no matter what!
