I think it is likely that she is hiding. How scary. It is amazing the power of nature, and instinct, but very horrible to have it going against your flock. Nutmeg could be in a very small space all cuddled up.

That sucks, she could be hiding, there's always hope. How long were they out for? Do a thorough search of all surrounding areas quickly!

Sorry, reread your post and you've been looking for 2 hrs for her already. Maybe she will come out when it's time for bed. Praying you find her uninjured. **** hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heather, I agree that she may be hiding in a tiny spot...somewhere you may least expect. Another place to check is in your yard, in any areas with taller grass. I've had EE's be outside free ranging and when scared...flatten themselves down to the ground like pancakes. They became so still and flat that it was hard to find them, and when we did...we actually thought they were dead. So, keep your eyes open. I hope that she shows up at dinner time.

Carolyn, I already have you covered. I got some chicks at Agway a few weeks ago, and I vaccinated them when we got home.
Have about a dozen to pick from

Are they gonna lay BLUE eggs? Ya think? Maybe? Possible?

Oh Whew!!! Best possible outcome guys - she was hiding under the big blue tarp we have covering the patio furniture for the winter. I had checked under there because that's where Cinnamon was but I didn't see Nutmeg since she climbed up onto a chair! She didn't make a sound either, not when I pulled cinnamon out or when I brought her big sis Tiana near her spot. God when does hawk migration end again?!

So, so, so happy for you!! That was so scarey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Reminded me of the time that I opened the nest box in the morning and found a small raccoon in there looking up at me with half closed eyes. He slowly raised his sleepy face with a look that said: "Oh, is it time to get up already?" The four girls were all huddled on their roosting board not two feet away from him. All safe and sound. Amazing. I was so shocked, I was trembling.)
Glad your little chicken girl was found alive and well. Deep breath. Whew, indeed.
