Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Suzanne, When I see you at the Poultry Congress...I have an idea for a new career path for you utilizing your teaching background. I'd like to share some thoughts with you. Tina

Wow. Thanks for all the kind words about the crocheted chicks. I haven't put up pictures on the esty shop yet, but I will within the next day or so.

My daughter makes 1" pinned buttons. I was thinking of having her do 100 or so of mixed sayings, like "Talk is Cheep" and "Chicks Rule" to sell at the Congress as well. They would be a little fun thing to add to the jewelry/chick table.

I'm very excited about seeing everyone who's planning on coming up. And spending two days with the one and only CFG!

Tina, I'm very interested in your ideas. I'd really like to find a way to support myself through teaching without having to go back to the classroom.

I just found an old copy of an Oprah magazine I hadn't read. In it was an article about a woman who gave up teaching to raise alpacas. Bobby's been wanting to raise alpacas for a long time. I probably shouldn't have shown him the article!

Heather, you can definitely post a link to the etsy shop. I'll let you know when it's been "stocked".

Good morning peoples!
It's catch up time.
I've just run through the last few pages real quick and see you guys have been busy. Me too....sigh.......
Anyhows, I am 3 birds "lighter" as of this morning. I re-homed 3 roos yesterday afternoon. Both white silkies and my huge blue orp Tank.
The silkies were crowing in tandem and just had to go. After practicing their songs for a couple of weeks they had perfected their noise level to a high crescendo......and my shed couldn't keep them undercover.

I heard them each morning as I made coffee.

So in total I have re-homed 8 roos and been able to keep only 3 pullets from months of hatching.

Not to mention all the bad shipped eggs I had gotten. I've [put my incubators away for now.

I am planning on ordering from a hatchery some girls along with a friend this spring so as to get what I want now. I can't afford to feed Roos anymore to end up not keeping them.

Thanks JerseyHen for breaking down the availability from the hatcheries. I might just go with that myer out in PA myself.

Found layer pellets out on Englishtown NJ and spend $15.49 for a 50. lb bag. Agway.
Bales of straw $8 ......scratch is $16.00

My local place are now up to $21.00 feed and $12 straw......$21.00 scratch
Ugh.....what bridges and gas add up to around here is killing us wanna be micro farmers.

Suzanne $10 for your adorable chicks and they should sell well.

Loved that Owl photo!

Getting ready for a lot of repair work around here in the up-coming weeks so will be in and out lurking.

Tina the Mereck's link was a great and easy to understand read, thanks.

I'd love to have pea-hens but the screech they make is just way over the top of what my neighbors would tolerate and I can't blame them.

Happy, Health and hopefully prosperous New Years to you all.

Come on Spring......I'm already over this winter stuff.

Suzanne, would you want to use the graphics I already created for "talk is cheep"? I can do a "Chicks Rule" one too. You can use those for the buttons and I wouldn't take any compensation for any sale proceeds. You came up with the sayings after all!

Guess we'd have to see how they look on such small buttons. Will send artwork for those to the email you just provided so you can try them out.

Also, I just got that awesome camera for Christmas and if you want, I can help take pics for you of the chicks, let me know! NO charge for anything. Emailing you the etsy banners and business cards in case you wanted to get them printed so everything matches. It's so "cheap" nowadays to get stuff printed. Can also make you a personalized tee through my shop, I won't add any commission. If you oder today, you might have it before the big show!

Don't forget the "ShiRt Happens!" stuff!!! That will sell out in minutes.

Love you guys - you all are so supportive and awesome. Seriously. Makes me glad to know people like you exist. :)

Hi, ya know, I just looked at my site and they must have removed my chicken shirt design, maybe they thought it was offensive :(

I am going to upload it again and will do a hoody version, just order one quickly if you really want it before they remove it again.
