Went out to the coop to straighten it up. Company coming for dinner. Noticed Ginger in the nest box with Daphne and Poppy hovering. Everyone was uncommonly quiet. Then suddenly...... the "Egg Song"

I have never heard one before but knew it and what it meant. Ran to the house to get DH. She was still singing by the time we got back!! I opened the nest box lid. Jaw dropped. Low and behold! My very 1st egg ever!!!!

It was still warm................

Ginger is a Buff Orpington and still small. I just can't believe that she was the 1st to lay.

Now how much fun was that?????? Like getting a little gift each day gathering up my eggs.

Our oldest turned 29 last week. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. The nurses told my husband that if he is born at midnight (St. Pats day) hospital policy is that you have to name him Patrick! My husband had a fit saying we already had the name Anthony picked out & kept telling me I better have that kid before midnight. He was born 11 mins. before midnight & he was so relieved. I just shook my head not believing how naïve he was. That's one story we repeat every year on his birthday along with all the food that was served at the hospital on st. pats day was green. Even green oatmeal! Getting way off any chicken stories here, sorry
LOLOL.....good one Jeanette!!!!

I consider it an honor not to fit in! I love having a diverse range of interests. I love to shop for shoes, but I read Mother Earth News also. I used to play Barbie with my sister and Army with my brother. And Laura is the same way. I think it's a great way to raise our daughters.

You will always have friends here who love and respect you!

Gotta have my mother earth news! Reading that since 1972 I think. So many cool ideas and DIY things that we can ACTUALLY pull off.

I also wear nothing but flip flops .even in the winter. I love funky pedicures don't have to worry about them fitting correctly and you can switch them up every month. Have always been the "odd" one and love every minute of it.. 35 years later Richards family still thinks im strange not to mention his partners wife . My family has known it all along but I still surprise them every once in a while.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE QUOTE IS FROM KATHERINE HEPBURN "IF YOU FOLLOW ALL THE RULES, YOU MISS ALL THE FUN" IMAGINE IF WE DIDNT GO AGAINST THE GRAIN HOW BORING LIFE WOULD BE. I BOUGHT HOME HORSE POOP IN OUR NEW LEXUS LAST FALL & MY HUSBAND HAD A FIT. POOR GUY SHOULD KNOW BETTER AFTER 30+ YRS

I follow no rules but to treat others the way I'd like to be treated myself. That has served me well so far.

but in truth I was always bucking the system .......so at times it's been a struggle being "a horse of a different color".
Keeps it interesting ...that's for sure.

And yes, pedicures I also do!
