Welcome :) Laura.
a show in CT hmmm??.....this is an enablers group....I could spend some time with my girlfriend in ct....
I hope this pain can be managed with something, I had a friend with severe RA and I hated watching the drug trials and 'testing' things out. I took her to so many different doctors to try this drug or that. I pray the bad weather today doesnt make it impossible for you to go about your day. Best Wishes
Good info....Thank You, it helps plan future coops with partitions lol

My friend made me removable partitions. Pretty much screens with 1/2 inch square wire. Just make sure you stabilize them with a center support.

Hello Long Islanders. I live in Central Suffolk and am at beginning stages of chicken hood. Got some great advice earlier, including joining this thread. I'm still needing to build a coop or completing it, but my main concern is where on Long Island I can get an Easter Egger, Rhode Island Red and a couple other good egg layers with potential for meat, if need be. I would like pullets for my first attempt so my wife will believe the benefits of the eggs quicker and then the chicks will come next...unless I get a couple pullets and a couple chicks. Any advice or direction is welcomed.
Nice to know so many chicken people on the Island.

Talmadge Farms Agway in Riverhead has chicks during April and May. You can check with them about which chicks you can get and when.

Welcome! I am in Centereach.....backyard chickens are becoming more and more popular out here! I got my chicks from Makanajian Farms in Elwood, but he wouldn't/couldn't say what breed they were, we picked two of each color. It was a very long wait for eggs, but read up before introducing chicks to an existing flock of adults.

I'm in Huntington. You'll love this thread, lots of great people. You'll find answers, and lots of laughs!

Maggie, I do have some girls. I haven't gone thru them yet to check who's staying or going.
Looks like all the paint are boys

I have some very pretty buff, I got them for a friend that lost her flock, she needs to see them before I can make a decision on them.
Also the partridge, 2 girls she needs to see.
A few black or blue....
It's too crappy outside to look at them, but I need to band them soon so I know what to keep and what to sell.
I'm workin' on it.
Let me know what colors would be better for him.
Any colors would work for him. His wife is crazy for the 2 I gave them and now has the "evil silkie addiction" we all seem to get after trying just one.
I myself would buy 2 as well. I love buff, matches my hair. lol But any colors aside from white (got 2 already)
A friend of mine lost her only silkie to old age and needs a pullet. Any color would do. Consider 6 total sold if you got extras. I could actually sell a barrel full of silkies for anyone needing to sell girls. Everyone around here wants them as they are easier to keep in yards. I wish I could breed them.

Thank you. I live in Selden so Riverhead not too bad of a trip. Does the Agway on 347 in Mt. Sinai have any chicks or are they too small of an operation? At least I now know Riverhead will have them in May so I still have time building the coop. Unfortunately, this crappy day is hindering that project.

Hi and Welcome! I live in Miller Place, 2 minutes from the Mt Sinai Agway. I know last year they didn't have any chicks after Easter, but have no clue about this year. I'll ask when I stop in there probably on Sunday-I need DE, and they have relatively good prices, since you don't have to pay shipping.

This thread is getting filled with folks very local to me!

Don't use that Agway. They charge $5 more a bag for food, and everything just seems to cost more.
I always go to Riverhead. Plus the stores and outlets make it worth the trip.
