Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I just went out to the henhouse to collect my days earnings from the girls...I found what looks to be an EMU egg. this thing is twice the size of a large chicken egg, and cannot even fit into the egg carton. I looked at it, then at my girls, (who think I'm nuts for wanting those things anyway) and all I could say was "OUCH!"

I'm going to see how to get a picture of it uploaded on here, since my tapatalk is STILL not working. I've never seen an egg this big come from a chicken!

Frizzles are a mutation of the feather gene and can be found in most if not all breeds of chicken! The frizzle cochins are really sweet though-cochins are fluffy to begin with!
Sizzles (silkies) are adorable and also comical to watch when the wind is blowing up their behinds.

But they are wonderful dogs Suzanne. Sweet tempered, good with kids etc.
Just their "baying" would make some folks nutty. They just can't help themselves. :gig

Well that and their inability not to steal food from any surface...including out of your hand if you turn away. We also have a golden retriever. He is the best dog I ever had, just a lot of shedding. He looks at the girls with his brow furled and ears perked up...kinda like, " hmmm, what can I do with these"?

Mags, your Silkie momma is doing such a great job! My goodness, she is gaw-juss! So are her babies! I love Swedish Flower Hens. Color me envious!

She really does a good job. This is her 3rd batch and she's an awesome mom. I can let them outside with her running the yard freely....and sit and watch them for hours foraging and learning how to find bugs and scratch. And when they are scared/startled how fast they can dive under her protective wings is something to see. She is fearless as well.
It never ceases to amaze me how perfect mother nature can be.
