Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

So how is everyone's week going? I'm out in Montauk, and figured out how to use my phone as a hot spot. Of course, everyone is still sleeping. It's so beautiful out here-it's my favorite place.

My little Poults are enjoying vacation. They get cuddled all day long, and are FAR more needy and affectionate than Chicks. They're also getting pretty big. All wing feathers are in, and they have just the biggest eyes I've ever seen. Soprano is a chocolate, and Montana is a Spanish black. They have completely different personalities, Soprano is really cuddly and sticks to me like glue, Montana enjoys exploring, but has to run back to check on me every few minutes.

I really miss my girls at home though-Sweet Brown, my BCM hand raised loner, is probably thinking I've abandoned her-she usually tries to follow me into the house, since she figures she's not a chicken at all. My husband walked in one night and found her perched on the back of a kitchen chair. She'd gotten in, without me knowing it, and got up there and figured dinner was coming soon.

I'll be home On Saturday, I hope everyone's July is going great!
Sounds nice rosie, enjoy.
I just might have to add a turkey to my yard.

Hey Bryan, how are the babies?

Yesterday I was cleaning out the frig so i gave the girls small containers of applesauce. They went crazy over it. Trying everything to keep them comfortable in this heat.

Has anyone heard from Suzanne? She must be on vacation.

BQfarm, I have a dirt run also. My girls free range though so are in it for a very short time everyday. I use an old garden tool to scrap the chicken pods up. In this heat they become pods pretty fast. In the late fall and all winter I through it into my garden to be turned over in the spring.the stuff on the lawn I just hose in.
Doing well! My biggest problem is my girls want to name the meat birds. I have a question... With the heat outside how long with the heat lamp? I should be able to reduce the amount sooner right? I was hoping to put the meat birds outside at 3 or 4 weeks.

You usually drop 5 degrees each week they get older. It's so hot out...... as long as they have good protected housing they should be just fine without a lamp. maybe just a light in a corner should they need it.

I tell my dd never name your food... She does it anyway. Oddly, she was ok when we processed our extra roosters. Then again she was not too fond of them since they liked to chase her around. I would advise not letting the kids interact with them to much (same for you if you tend to get attached). As you probably know, they have to be processed, most won't live long past processing age anyway (too heavy, too fat to survive).

The heat haa been brutal here. Lost 2 girls this weekend, and I found Necklace dead this morning. She has always had egg laying issues, but when I opened her up, she had peritonitis.
I also found a stainless screw in her gizzard, if Gene is missing any hardware.... :(

Sorry to hear that Roberta. it has been horrific. I dipped all my birds in a cool bucket of water at 1 point on Sunday.
Possible cause I only have 12 so I know that's no help to you..........They were all standing under bushes in the shade wings spread and panting bad. I got scared. They actually loved it after a few seconds. They are free ranging every day in this heat so as to find a cool hole to dig into. ****....I need a cool hole to relax in myself.

I have a utility sink outside that I use for the waterers.
A lot of them have been getting hosed off in there.
I have one girl, her new thing is she screams like a cow.
It's bad enough I worry about the crowing, but THIS noise is just crazy!
And then there's Peri....
