Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Morning all,
Hope everyone has had a nice couple of weeks. I now have 4 Broodies. Broodies nightmare around here. Picked my first yellow squash this morning. Had to get rid of a tomato plant cause of blight. The others look fine although I shouldn't say it out loud.
What's everyone got planned for the summer? Unfortunately nothing here. There is a knitting getaway in....wait for it....Florence Italy in this amazing villa for 10 days it also is going to have cooking classes.found out about it too late. My passport has expired . Maybe next year. Need to do that once in my life. There or Ireland.
Have a week everyone, stay hydrated.

Have you ever heard of Peter's Valley School of Craft (http://www.petersvalley.org/)? It is very near the fairgrounds where the sussex show takes place. It is within the confines of the Delaware Water Gap. It is an artists colony known for all manner of craftsmanship. They have adult workshops that look really amazing, so while it isn't Italy, it might make for a really nice getaway. There are workshops in weaving, knitting, quilting, felting, etc in the "fiber workshops" (http://www.petersvalley.org/html/fibers.cfm). They go all day for 2 - 5 days depending on the workshop. They even have "on campus" lodging and meals. There are also a number of hotels and campgrounds and BnBs nearby (http://www.petersvalley.org/images/file/Off_Campus_Lodging_List.pdf). You could also stay here if you like. I think I am about 30 minutes away.

I think I am going to enroll Lilly in one of their summer courses for kids. They are pricey (so are the adult workshops), but they are all day long and it goes to support the colony (they are a non-profit).

HI ALL!

Been working like a nut job. Things are winding down door the summer tho. I need silkie chicks. 3 of them. A student has caught chicken fever...

All is sort of well. Still have my girls, all 10 of them. And I'm fostering a duck for a few days. Don't ask...

Morning Suzanne, hope everything is ok. Thought you left for good. Always thinking of you. Roberta and Vera are your silkie ladies on the island. Have a nice relaxing summer.

Christina, checked out the web site. Very cool. Thanks. how are your fruit trees?

Broke 3out of 4 broodies.

Have a nice weekend

Is "broody" a season because my 1 + a couple months all seem to be trying it on for size! 3 hens in the past month. The solitary dog crate method seems to work best.

I have a broody in every nest box! I have 12 nesting boxes! Today I went in and I have two broodies in one of them. Geesh. I even have a broody leghorn. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Oh well, looks like a lot of chicks will be popping soon.

Carol, my fruit trees are suffering from deer, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, weevils, weather, and the neighbors truck. I am a glutton for punishment. I keep putting them in. Eventually, I will find something that takes and actually makes fruit. How is your garden? Is it time to harvest peas yet?

How is everyone's gardens coming along?

I'm getting bush beans. My tomatoe plants are huge. The chickens got into the leaf lettuce and it looked like one of those chopped salad bars! I put in okra and edamame to take the place of the lettuce, hope it's not too late.
