Morning to you all! I am loving the bright blue skys and cooler weather this morning. Finally feels like fall!

I am jealous of your beautiful eggs! I am waiting for my FIRST egg....my girls are only 13wks so I have a while to go. I ordered sexed chicks from My pet chicken but out of my bunch I definately have one EE rooster. The past few mornings he's been letting out this pathetic crow 4 or 5 times when he comes out of the coop. I might need to find him a home if my neighbors complain. We are not supposed to have any roosters in our town. I thought one of my New Hampshires was a roo too based on appearance but he doesn't act like my EE.

Reberta, nice basket of eggs. I totally understand the rooster theory. It is a woin, win situation.

I am getting maybe 2 eggs a day (of 4 possibles)if I am lucky right now.

A panoramic beach shot a friend took this July of where I walk by my house. I don't think people know how noce our shoreline can be.

The shells are 6" deep and here in my area in particular it is a well kept secret. You'd never know you are in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC.

Shells? I haven't seen shells around here since I was a kid. Gosh, that was a long time ago. I don't know if it's because everyone has to take "just one" home with them, or if they are just dying off.
Too bad, I live on an island, but it just doesn't feel that way.

Hello to every one. I was shocked when I left the house this morning at 0530 hrs to see the pouring rain. I had no idea it was going to rain. Isn't the crisp air a refreshing change. Fall is my time of the year. My 6 adult (hens) are giving us anywhere from 1-4 eggs a day. They have always given us 5-6 but have slowed down now because they are all molting. Speaking of molting. These girls are going through a pretty hard molt. They look pathetic but I do see all of the new feathers coming back in. Anyone planning to go apple picking anytime soon?

Maggie, beautiful shots. How nice it is to be that close to the water. We once lived about 3 blocks from the end of the Sound. I had a boat then and loved going out at dawn or in the evening to do a little night Striper fishing. Those were the days...

Roberta, lots of great colored eggs there. Occasionally, one of ours lays an egg that looks dark, and almost purple, similar to your Maran's egg. Nothing like the variety in our own home grown chicken eggs.

ChickenDude, it started raining here about ten minutes ago. It was a nice day here today and we almost managed to dry out. I can't figure out why my chickens are still laying 5-6 out of 6 a day and have not started to molt at all yet.

Have to run electricity out to the coop soon. Temps overnight are already into the low 40s.

Al, Your birds are young aren't they? My birds did not molt until they were almost 18 months old. Are you thinking of heating the coop?
Mag, just take a short trip up to my area, plenty of apples!!! I have two 3 year old apple trees and am hoping for our own apples next year. But it is always nice to go to the orchard. The homemade doughnuts are the best.

Maybe this coming weekend I can get the DH to go apple picking. I just got done making a ton of jams for the holidays and some apple slices put up for winter would be nice. yummm
Where would be a good place to go? Got any places I can mapquest?

You can also try Wilkens farm in Yorktown Heights. It is just off the Taconic Pkwy.
