Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I still have 8 birds need a bath for show on Saturday. 3 done last nite... My house is gonna be a mess, as I don't want to put them back outside to get filthy again...Poop everywhere:barnie

I let the big girls out this morning and worked at cleaning up the yard a bit while keeping an eye on them. Aggie didn't want to come out of the coop at first, but I took her out and she perched on my shoulder. Gladys of course then had to get into the act. One on my lap, one on my shoulder. But Gladys is the queen so she had to be on my shoulder too. So there I was sitting in a chair with them both squeezed onto my shoulder. Of course for Bobby it was a Kodak moment.

Things are working out nicely between them. No aggression, just some guidance. Gladys stole a juicy bit of grass from Agatha, but otherwise they're just free-ranging side by side. I got a kick out of watching them having a little chat around the water cooler.

While this was going on, I let the chicks have the run of the room they're in so they could practice their foraging skills. This afternoon I plan to take them outside and introduce them (carefully) to the older girls.

We're going to expand the coop today since we're both home. Bigger run, bigger roosting area and a nest box.

(Bobby just called to me that he can't find the hens, then said it was okay he found them. Yeah, like he's not addicted too!)

Maggie, they are the prettiest looking. I also would love to have a rooster if not for the noise and the town ordinance.

I'm not on here for one day and I see 3 pages of posts to catch up on. Excellent! I am really happy seeing all of us downstate finding a home on BYC. This is a fantastic site, and it is great the owners and moderators have let us have this space to connect.

Suzanne, you'll definitely have to give me those Ninja lessons. I was never good at sneaking things in or not telling the truth about the price. Always got busted...

AHappyChick, welcome to the thread. Yeah, NewRoc is not exactly the farm capital of Westchester.

Glad you dropped by. Hope you will stay with us even after you get to Goshen. Ahhh, to be further north...

Trish, Im going to look into Vintage organic. Our local Agway does not carry that brand. Although, I haven't been there in a while. Sounds like a better solution than having to pay that ridiculous shipping charge.

Carolyn, I put your name on the first page. I am not too sure everyone would want to have their location printed. Most of us put our location with our avatar, and that may be as close as anyone wants to get. Whatever you guys think is fine by me, though.

This is excellent news and having the bennies back is a big help.

Sometimes good things happen to good people.

Roberta, I don't envy you. Lots of work to get them in show shape.

You are really dedicated to your chickens.
