Maggie:

In April, my daughter (27) broke up with her boyfriend of 7 years because she felt he wasn't the guy she wanted to spend the rest of her life with and it was headed that way. It happened around the time I found out I would be losing my job in June. I took it really hard because I had sort of figured they'd get married. I was very fond of her boyfriend and it broke my heart to see his heart broken. But I should have trusted my daughter's instincts because I now see the dysfunction in her prior relationship. Seeing her with this new guy, and seeing her happy in a more "normal" relationship does my poor old mommy heart good. And his mother is awesome - definitely someone I can be friends with. I haven't thought too much about grandchildren. I can't even wait for eggs, can you imagine how I'd be with a grandchild???

It's funny, but I look Irish and I'm not. People always think I am! I'm German and Italian (and a lot more). I heard a comedian say "I'm German and Italian - yeah, I wanna take over the world, but I gotta eat first!"

I'm soooo not money driven. I gave up a law career to be a teacher. Everyone thought I was crazy, but personal fulfillment was always more important. I think there's way too much greed in the world. The only reason I wish I had more money is so I could make the people around me happy.

And of course, buy a chicken farm...

PS Happy Birthday to your baby! I hope he knows what a great mom he has.

Maggie, thanks so much. I really had no intention of letting it all hang out because I never let anyone know, except the other administrators, in the support group. I always try to focus on what the members need and deserve. For some reason this little group of ours
Is made up of a lot of really caring people, yourself included. Maybe it is the chicken lover in us, but being all of us have life issues and are not afraid to talk about it makes this even a more special place. I've always found that you never know where the angels in your life are to be found, or how you will run into them. Never would have thought chickens attracted such nice people.

I guess bearing crosses is what makes us human. We may think we have it tough and that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, but that is not true. It is how you deal with the difficult parts of life and how you treat others that gives us a better feeling about ourselves. It is always what we give, not what we take that makes for a content and happier life.

This thread belongs to all of us. I only made the first post to see if there was anyone out there who was interested. We all are a bunch of characters, in a good way. May that always continue.

Suzanne, chickens may be the answer to a lot of problems. Shame many may never know that.

I did the first part of my 1200 calorie diet for dinner. A buffalo burger, no bun, and a half ear of corn. Just had some lowest organic yogurt for a late night's snack. You can stay away from the cookies! Not easy to do but doable.

Hope you had a great dinner with your daughter's new Boyfriend. Good that you like him from the start. Great that he adores your daughter.

That's what we are waiting for too. Our oldest son (30) is getting married for the 2nd time next July. He has a wonderful fiancé and we are so happy for them. She wants three kids and I think they will get started right away. At least that is what we hope.

In my case, Dad was German, Mom is Italian (and Dutch, French and Native American - not too hard to figure that one out).

I agree with everything you said, Al. I look forward to seeing the posts from this group - and BYC in general. Animal lovers are special people and I can see that on BYC to the nth degree. Even Bobby ("CHICKENS!!??") tonight at dinner said he "fell in love with the chickens" and could never eat his chickens. How can you not love them?

Gladys really got me out of a depression, and it's only gotten better from there. Getting Agatha from Roberta doubled the joy. I love watching the two of them side by side all over the yard. I can't wait to get the other 3 integrated.

Last night I checked on the chicks and they were asleep making little chicken snoring sounds. Priceless!

There's a guy on craigslist out here who has BO 6 week old chicks for $7. Although they're not as strong layers as the other breeds I have, I love the way their personalities have been described.

I feel an attack of chicken math coming on. Now where did I put that ninja suit??
