Just had a tragedy here. My chicken baby bad wings who has pulled through some major health issues since we got her 2.5 years ago died in my arms a little while ago. I had for the first time in my life given her a shot of antibiotics and 15 minutes later she convulsed and died. UGH! My friend doesn’t think it was me who killed her but for sure I will always wonder. She said she’d do an necropsy on her for me tomorrow to try and find out what the heck happened. I’m sad, she was such a cute, sweet bird. The kids will be upset. She wasn’t eating or drinking though so I’m sure she was very sick anyway. If I did kill her, maybe I did her a favor. I’d never make a very good farmer. I was balling my eyes out a few minutes ago. :–( RIP BBW.

I'm so sorry to hear Baby Bad Wings has died. This has been a hard time for a lot of us with pets dying. I know how you feel about crying your eyes out. These are our pets and we are attached to them.

For what it's worth, I don't think you did anything wrong to her. She must have been sick for a long while, as they hide it so well.

Take good care.

So sorry to hear about Baby Bad Wings. It's so hard to lose our pets, as we all know.

We do need some good news around here. How about this? We're into February and Spring will be here soon.

Hi everyone! Thinking about staying home today
roll.png
have too many babies in the house, and not enough time to take care of them.
Mikey, my party rooster, has also passed. He waited for me to come home.
Strange how they know how to say goodbye.
He was almost 10 years old.

I just filled my incubator up AGAIN.
I have a friend that wants pheasants, and bobwhite quail, to repopulate the farm.
And of course, there was room for some Showgirls, so I will have a few MORE chickens.

I really am nuts. Oh well.....

Hope everyone is doing OK.
Al, I worry because we don't hear alot from you.
I hope it is just the new website, and not a health issue.

If anyone knows Peter Brown, he has just suffered a massive heart attack, and is lucky to be alive.

Sending good vibes to everyone that needs them, including Dawg53.

I had the MRI on my shoulder and it showed calcium deposits and a slight tear in the rotator cuff tendons. I will see the doc on the 21st to talk about what needs to be done. Hope its not surgery! I have been chicken sitting for my neighbors. They have 24 hens and oh my God what do I do with their 22 to 24 eggs a day plus my own eggs. I have to store them in the garage because there is no room in the fridge.

Roberta, you are crazy

what are you gonna do with them all? Plus it is allot of work. Where do you find the time?

Hey Al, where have you been? I hope all is well with you.

Well I hope we hear from some members that haven't posted in a while. Chat with you all soon.

So sorry to hear of your rooster Mikey Roberta, that is a very long time to have a chicken. Which shows the good care they must have. Though, I do all I can for my girls and they are dying left and right.

What's the matter with Dawg53? I've had some fun posts back and forth with him, hope he's ok.

I hope Peter Brown recovers from the heart attack. Wow! We do need some good news on this post. Well, my good news is my other hens all seem fine for the moment!

Just sending good energy out to everyone! Keep yourself and your creatures happy and healthy!

Here is good news, my DH, who has not been chicken enthusiastic was out by the run with me this morning and said "you know, we really should double the size of this run so they can have some more room to play when they are not freeranging". Me "huh?" because it was so unexpected and I was half asleep then as I recovered "you know, you are probably right...". By the time the conversation ended I also decided to build a new coop (a smaller 1/2 coop, but still) so I can give in to some terrible chicken math. Teeheehee. Bring on the birds!!!

Dawg's wife was just given 2 weeks to live. She has been battling this for a while, and he has been her caregiver.
She is down to 77 lbs, and I wish them the best strength to deal with this. She has finally agreed to go into hospice.
He has been an amazing help to us all, and has used us at BYC to escape his own problems to help us with ours.
So if you don't hear from him, just give him some time, as he will be at her side.
