Heather, for a minute I thought you were talking about the men in her house! I guess that would be a bit extreme, though.

All I can say to that is HA HA HA HA HA HAH! Oh man, I needed that laugh!

Sorry your Partridge didn't make it. But I'm so glad the rest of your girls are okay and you are enjoying them.

Which brings me to my news: I was going to change my mind about the order of chicks but Toxic Chicken's post made me change my mind back. I WILL be ordering the chicks as we discussed. For all those on board, I'll let you know your total.

And now the reason I thought of cancelling: Within 20 minutes of arriving for my first day back after surgery, I was told (by a substitute teacher, no less) that the powers that be have held budget meetings and they are planning on cutting another 5 elementary teachers as well as all the long-term leaves. Which means I will be out of a job again in June. This time, I have little hope of surviving the cuts.

Any ideas for a new profession? Maybe I can get a job teaching chicken math?

(Don't let the light-hearted tone fool you. I'm devastated. Again.)

I am so sorry. :( Truly, that stinks. Any summer camps near you looking for people?

Suzanne, sorry you have to face this once again. It's just not fair.

If you want breeding stock, and think you can make money,

I can set you up.
We can leave the roosters at my house, and you can hatch eggs in the quiet.... hmmm....

Sorry Suzanne, that stinks about your job! It's getting harder and harder it seems to earn a living around here. Hence, my tee shirt business idea. Which probably won't go anywhere but I'llkep trying!

Not sure if you got my reply a few days ago but I am down for 3 buffs. I am in greenlawn and can pick them up and pay then or beforehand, let me know.

My friend who is a vet tried caponing roosters and it isn't easy. I think they have to be very young to do it right. And if it's done wrong, they'll crow anyway.

Sorry to hear about your job. I worked in education for many years and always was amazed that when there was a budget problem the answer was always to cut teachers or TAs, it was never to curtail the pay of administration or cut administrators...I always thought it was a grandstand effort to make the people dig deeper to save the obviously necessary components in a school.

It is bizarre that the teachers, who do the real work of educating, are the ones who get cut. Then, educating our youth suffers, and they wonder why? Suzanne, I like your attitude of taking this and using it as an opportunity. Many successful people have done that. Look at Steve Jobs after getting fired from his own company, Apple, In 1985. the best never rest...
