Jumped the gun on putting away the heated water dish. Cold this morning . That rooster is crowing(or attempting to) before the sun is up what's with that. Anyone have Silver Laced Wyandottes?Man are they beautiful.

Same deal hear. I don't think the cold is gonna last though.

By being lazy and not taking out the water heater I turned out to be the lucky one. It was 25 here this morning. I'm hoping this doesn't last long either, Rich. We still have the month of April which can get pretty chilly at night.

I would love to see my neighbors faces with an emus walking around the yard. I sat on my front steps with my silkie girl in my lap & one asked if I got a new cat!

I hear ya Al, mine is still out there but not plugged in. Trying to save a little on the NYSEG bill. I want to get the chicks out doors to the brooder coop but with the temps still getting pretty low I have that thought on hold. I'm afraid the heat lamp wont keep them warm enough at night.

Here's the latest progress on the coop. All four window spaces are done. The windows are being delivered later today, so Bobby should be putting them in on Thursday. (He's working for his friend tomorrow.) I came home to make him lunch (and check up on his progress

). He was preparing to start putting the plywood up on the roof. I think we're going to insulate the whole coop, not just the roof. It will keep things nice and cozy, and will cut down on the noise. I hesitated because it meant putting up some kind of walls, but I think we're going to get that really cheep (get it?) paneling. I'll be able to wash it down, too. We're going to put a layer of linoleum on the floor (a mere $28 at Home Depot) for the same reason. And I think I'm going to use those under-bed storage boxes on wheels as droppings pits. I'll be able to wheel them out to empty and wash them. At some point, I'll have to total what we've spent on this enterprise. Still cheaper than buying a comparable coop, though. Plus, it gives us something to talk about over dinner.

Very nice so far. I would like to come look at it when finished. I got perfectly good windows at the recyling center (dump) on old indian head rd. (town of smithtown residents)
