Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Well, after all stress, a million visits to the USPS website, emails all over the chicken world and about 54 text messages, I got a call this morning at 6:57 from the Post Office telling me the chicks had arrived. They let me in early to pick them up. All 11 seem healthy and happy. They immediately went to the feeder and waterer and are now doing a chick pile in the brooding box.

Heather's Salmon Faverolle (upper left corner) has kept up non-stop peeping, even while falling asleep in my hand. The hatchery marked them so we could figure out who was who.

The replacement eggs are in the incubator, and Bobby's hard at work on the coop. And it's not even 8:30 yet. Who needs a job?

(It's okay to give them electrolytes in the water, right?)
Glad the chicks are all ok. They are SO cute :D MPC warned me to be very careful with the electrolytes too much can kill them. So follow directions carefully. My girls are outside in their play pen. Their "rooster" Charlie, my one yr old bichon is guarding them. He LOVES his chicks. The other 2 dogs want to eat them so i have to be careful. Charlie lets them peck his nose, snuggles with them, doesn't steal their food/treats. He's amazing with them.

So I am home with the wee ones, drowning in cute over here. Tomorrow we go have a peek at our new puppy, I may just faint.

Yes, the Faverolle kept the peeping up the WHOLE ENTIRE DRIVE home.... *sigh* and of course because it's Long Island there was construction and it took forever. But we are back home now, and they immediately dove into the water and food after being put in the box. Blabbermouth seems to have quieted down a bit, it's hard to make a fuss when your mouth is full I guess. The Welsummer was already named Princess Tiana by the girls, but I'm not sure what we're naming the Faverolle. Something tells me she is going to be a real character and something special. I will put a movie together and post a URL for YouTube when I get it going. Watching her walk is like - well imagine a fuzzy ping pong ball with one leg - she has two but for all her balance and extra toes she might as well have just one. Tiana keeps trying to nap and then Blondie bangs into her *kapaow* and wakes her up. Then she gets the stink-eye. It is just too funny.

Cute little fluff balls. My faverolles have the cookiest personalities of all of my breeds. We named ours Rodeo Rose, Bubbles, Mabeline, Charlie, and Gigi. I have 6 easter eggers in the brooder right now. It will be my luck that they are all roos... why straight run, why???

Heather, you will know pretty soon if that faverolle is a male or female because they have completely different feathering.

Heather, great pics of the babies. Karen, I'm just going to give them electrolytes today. They all seem fine, so I don't want to overdo it.

This is Lola, a perfect little round ball of fluff. The quintessential chick.

This is Mabel, doing her chipmunk impression. She looks like she's drying her toenails, doesn't she?

Originally I was going to name her Flora, then Florence. But now I'm thinking Geraldine. Not feeling a name yet for this one. The folks at the hatchery got carried away with the orange marking, n'est pas? But check out the eyeliner!

It was great to meet Donna and Heather today. And Donna's awesome kids, Maggie and Stephen (Steven?). I like kids who are comfortable around adults without being fresh. Kudos, Donna.

Heather, please report on how much screaming and ooohing and aahhing went on when your girls got home today.

I've got it. Blanche. Because the SLW markings remind me of blanched almonds and with all that eye makeup she's a perfect Blanche DuBois. Plus, it doesn't mess up the mah jong team.

What a great bunch of pics of those cute new additions. All of you must have been up late last night watching the little peepers.

Looking forward to pics of them as they grow up.

Nothing like chicks to kick in that chicken math craving, huh? They are too cute for words. Lola, our little BO is like a little golf ball dressed up like a chicken. She's perfectly round.
