Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I love these low temps! I just dropped the boy at Conditioning camp, and it was actually chilly! I hope it clears up a little for tomorrow night-a friend of ours is having a party, and it should be a great time.
OY, I'm watching ex-NYC Mayor Dinkins on GDNY talking about Sylvia Woods passing, it's sad, he's seeming to age right on the set.

I let the girls out this morning-they all stayed in the coop-they looked at me as if to say "Lady, we have room for you, if you'd like to come in out of the rain, but we are NOT going out there!" Sissies!!

I've been wondering about Caleb too. Hope everything is ok with him.

Suzanne, I never would plant mine using the standard "three feet in every direction should be kept clear" method. I would always try to plant too many and too close, and suffer the consequences for not trusting the label. This year I only planted three, and that's probably two too many. I did leave lots of room between plants this year and that did make a difference. If yours is bad, then it might be wise to remove it before it causes any problems to the other plants.

Exactly my thinking, Al. And the garden could use more room for the cucumber riot!

Thanks Al!
I'll try your remedy!
Of course I don't space mine properly.LOLOL
I have tomatoes I don't think I can even reach my plants are so dense this summer with the heat. Last year too much rain and they didn't do well, kept splitting the skins...... this year not enough till now.

My little sugar baby watermelons are doing great!

I pulled out the zucchini plant. What a mess it was! All mildewy and rotten squash. But lots of leaves for the girls to enjoy.

We're having dinner tonight with Bobby's cousin and her ultra-conservative husband. God give me the strength to keep my mouth shut. Last time we had dinner with them he was so nasty to me, I cried on the way home. Good thing there's plenty of weather to discuss...I don't care what anyone's political views are - that's their business - but civility is a must!

I think I'm writing a book about crocheting. When I was 13, my mother's mother taught me how to crochet. So when she died in 1983, I was given all her old crochet and knitting books. Some of them I gave to my aunt because I don't knit well. But some of what I have are old cotton thread crochet patterns dating back to the 40s. Also baby sets and bed jackets for mothers who used to go to the hospital for 5 days when a baby was born instead of dropping them in the fields like the insurance companies have us do know.

ANYWAY, I'm converting some of the old filet crochet charts for use with regular yarn (that cotton and those tiny hooks KILL my fingers) to make scarves and such. I enjoy filet crochet - it works up so quickly and is so pretty to look at. One of the patters I found in a newer book is a chart for a huge detailed picture of a peacock. I was thinking that in worsted weight yarn it would be gorgeous as a blanket.

I'm going to work up a couple of the scarves. I'll post pictures when I'm done...

That sounds like a nice plan . Imagine the wonderful colors you could use and the fancy yarns out these days make for such interesting textures as well. Looking forward to seeing your creations.

I am so relaxed not fretting about the heat today. It is amazing how much energy I get back when the heatr is down low.
Think I'll make a cheesy zuccini casserole for dinner.

Hi Al; Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it is.Just remember all the good times you had with him. I still miss my two dogs .We had to put them down last year.I keep telling my husband that are french bulldog; Renfield needs a buddy. I'd love to get another cattle dog.

Well if my husband sees these kids on the patio table he is going to rehome me.

This one better be a girl ;she is a beauty. That goodness the table was dirty from all the rain.
Oh the "grand chicks" are looking cute. That hopefully girl has a lot of her father in her. Looks like you got offspring from Yeta the wonder chicken too. (the white one) if she takes after her mother she will be into everything you are doing and very smart. Really hope you get lots of blue/green egg layers, all the moms were, and I think Oreo has the "green" in him. lol lol lol

Thanks, for posting for Heather, I fell out sick again/still. I can't seem to shake this bug.
well my kids are taking it upon themselves to coexist .When I went out last night to close them up. the 2 silkies and half of the babiy EEs were all in the main coop.
the babies have been climbing into one of the trees it is hysterical. One of them just kept climbing higher and higher then flew/jumped out.I'll have to get pictures today.
if anyone is going to the NJ state fair I think I might go one day. It's a lot closer than the state fair in Syracuse .Might be nice on a weekday after the traffic burns off.
I can go up any day, let me know what day you are going to go.
Maybe I missed a response to this, but has anyone heard from Caleb?
I pm'd him too, but nothing. I have their phone number, I will call them today to be sure everything is ok.

Of course! She won't ship till it cools off, but if you don't mind a road trip....
I'm not sure how often she is on BYC, I will tell her to look for a message from you.
She is in Dayville, CT 06241. I sent a note to her asking how is the best way to get in touch with each other.

She said e-mail is best....
[email protected]

I really am living up to my name. Vera has a crapload of babies, and she is much closer.
They are younger... between 1-2 months. Mostly splash and blue.
And she has been on the Sussex thread on fb, are you a member there?
If not let me know, will get you in. Just have to message Mame1616 (Mary, you know her)
And it looks like I will be taking a road trip sometime soon... I can deliver.
Roberta,

I saw on FB that you are making a trip to Middletown NJ to pick up a trio of favs, and if a couple of Vera's silkies can hitchhike with you, I would be happy to meet you in that general direction...
