Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

My friend informed me that she's gonna wait until next year to do the guinea thing. Just when I was ready to get into it...

Cleaned the whole coop out this morning, and all the feeders and waterers. I love knowing the girls have a clean coop!

I think Bobby might actually be home tomorrow. Part of me is happy, but part of me will miss the solitude.

A neighbor I met last month when she was having an auction at her home stopped by yesterday.Well I invited her in for some ice tea and to check out my gardens and the girls. She was quite amazed with the chickens. At one point she asked me how many I had. Of course I say 8. She looks at me ans says " You have way more then 8 ". I told her that according to Suzanne I only have 8. I then started laughing. I told her that she needed to understand " chicken math". Add another person to the list that thinks I am strange.

It is so interesting watching people's reaction to raising chickens.LOL I am the neighborhood curiosity. People slow WAY down as they walk past my house in hopes of catching a glimpse of the girls out ranging. I get such a kick out of that.

We have a hay field next door to us that the girls range in. This field goes all the way up to the main road and they are often up on that end for the fresh pasture. I have seen many cars nearly slam on brakes to stop to see what odd exotic birds are out roaming in the field.

On a NJ state fair related note. I was helping at the SCPFanciers table in the poultry barn for 4 hours today. Not a lot of birds when I left, but they are supposed to have until 10 am tomorrow to coop in. There is a sale area there that has golden comets and some other cages with birds in them. Apparently to sell at the fair you must be NPIP and be a club member. It was hot as Hades in there today, even with the fans going. I will be there all week (M - F), but I told them I am taking off on Tuesday to have a fair day with the kid. I hope some of you will be there! Let me know if you want to meet up at Yetter's for breakfast before we go, or at least a coffee (so there is room for all the fair food)... today I tried ostrich jerky compliments of the SCPF prez. I cannot say I would ever eat it again.

Hey guys, I went AWOL for a bit to get through the last week of camp there. So far I'm still hoping to go to the fair on Tue, but I may have to leave my oldest child at the side of the road. Gotta love boundary testing! *sigh* I'm hoping to get some eggs for our very, very broody J. Lo. I know! Crazy! I just dealt with chicks. Hmm maybe not. I just feel so bad for her, she really wants to be a mama in the worst way. Christine that is so lame about the sneaky bill sort of like all the nonsense going on with the big farm bill. We will not make it to the Queens fair though, between me maybe doing a 5K and the baby turning 4 (4!) on the 24th I think we're booked up that day.

I love the hibiscus pictures, so, so beautiful! They look like my okra flowers. I looked it up and they're actually part of the same family. Going to try to pickle a bunch of okra tomorrow, we'll see how that turns out. Mags I love it, think you should just show up to the store with a silkie tucked under your arm. They need some bling of their own, don't they?

Good Morning Folks!
Tina, I hope everythings' ok!!

I am up watching the Olympics triathlon. I know, this sports thing is a sickness.

"My name is Rosie, and I'm a sportaholic." They're running the 10K now. the biking was excellent, but I did notice nobody has a pink bike like mine. (I'm SO cool)

My daughter decided to sleep on the couch, so she's rather irritated that I put the TV on at 4am to watch. (Heck, she HAS a room! She could be in it!)

I have to go food shopping this morning, early, then finish packing up clothes for our camping trip. We leave tomorrow, and come home Thursday. We're only going to Indian Island, so we're close to home. Of course Danny has to work a few hours tomorrow morning before we leave, but I guess that just gives me more time to get my poo together.

I signed up for the North Fork century race, Heather-have you ever heard of it? It's in Greenport, NY. 100 miles (I'm not doing all 100, I just got back into biking. I might do 50)

Apparently the rumor is, it's a flat course, so I hope I make it with no major problems.

What's every doing this weekend?

I love watching the Olympics also, track and field in particular. My brother did the decathalon when he was in high school. He went to the Empire state games several times watching him fly over the high hertles was amazing. His son is now big time into the triathlon. He is something like third in his class in Florida. He is heading to Cincinnati for a big race they Iowa for the nationals in Sept. someone to watch. He's only 13.
