Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Good morning all; dropped the Volvo off yesterday for service, waited all day for the call to come get it. Around 3:30 I get a call saying that they haven't looked at it yet and I will have to wait till today for it to be done. What is the point of making an appointment ???
Suzanne have a great weekend with your family. Make sure you stop several times so your mom can get out and stretch. Make sure you do also for your back.
Tomatoes coming out my ears.
I think both silkies are crowing so that would make it 5 out of 5 chicks that I brought home from Massachusetts roosters. What luck.
On my way home from Huntington yesterday I went truck shopping. I stopped at Honda to check out their version of a truck. The salesman wanted to know why so I told him that I was an Urban Farmer. Definitely need a tee shirt to that effect.

Heading up to Buffalo to visit my brother and sister-in-law.  And the Erie County Fair.  I'd love to sneak an animal carrier into the car, but I think Bobby's watching for ninja evidence.  I can't wait to see the chickens at the Fair!

My back's bad this morning.  Had trouble sleeping last night.  I did a lot of running around, including shopping for sneakers.  I think all that in/out of the car and bending over to put on sneaks did me no good. *sigh*

Yesterday I realized that the 6 bananas I had bought were under a dishtowel and so no one ate them.  Baked up a couple of loaves of banana bread.  The Louisville Slugger zucchini is coming up to Buffalo with me so we can enjoy it fresh.  Yummy!

Bobby's friend asked him if Laura knew how to take care of the chickens.  Bobby explained how we have automatic chickens. Spreading the chicken love! :love

Suzanne, enjoy the fair! Sounds like its going to be lots of fun. Be careful with your back. Maybe you can wear one of those back protectos like they sell at Home Depot. Not the most flattering of attire, but you can wear a Baggie shirt over it. The pharmacy might have something similar, also.

Drive safe.

Good luck getting the car fixed today.

Speaking of tomatoes, it seems like every year I'm not going to get enough, then Wham, buckets full all at the smae time.

We have one Mortgage lifter that is massive. The only thing is the rains gave too much water and there are splits on it. I'll try to post a pic.

Ok, great. So far she has just been in the "pet room" which is the spare bedroom/closet that seems to be the repository for all the pet food, medicine, shavings, etc. She is adapting very well but I think a bit lonely. I didn't have any time to hang out with her today other than to give her a bath. I went with regular Johnson's Baby Shampoo and a lice/mite spray for birds after. She even had a little blow-dry and tolerated it very well, also a nail trim. Again, she seems very healthy. When I went in to check on her just now she was perched on the sink handle, so I deposited her in the crate for the evening instead.

Lia decided that Lilly was her new best friend, btw - both girls had so much fun on the rides and I think Lilly helped tremendously. She's adorable!

The other pet news of the day is that our hamster is feeling very poorly, to the point where I took her to the vet. I know, I know, it's a hamster but she is just about the most awesome, sweetest hamster ever, and that's not just me saying that. She's a therapy hamster and has been loaned out to families with children that are afraid of animals and cured more than a few kids of their fears. The vet said she has an advanced cold, hopefully not pneumonia. So I started the hamster on antibiotics and food supplements tonight. I also discovered that brooder lamps are also good for keeping chilly hamsters warm. I really hope she pulls through, she's only 1 1/2.

Ahhhh....poor hammy.
Something to keep in mind. Any kind of cleaning spray or harsh cleanser's smell/fumes can kill small critters as well as fish in a tank. I learned the hard way on my 5 year old Hammy a few years back.Remove them from a room your cleaning to be on the safe side and good luck.

Goodness, those two peeking out from under that big mama hen is so wonderfully cute. My first smile of the day!

THanks!
