Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

OK you crochet crazies. Just checked out the list of authors signing books at the Sheep festival and EdieEckman has a new book Connecting the shape motifs. Now that's the type of granny squares I want to learn how to make.

I'm starting to have my doubts about Beatrice. She's a White Orpington I hatched. Yesterday we heard some rooish sounds coming from the coop and I'm wondering if Beatrice is actually Ben. She doesn't have a huge comb or wattles (hatch date 5/25) but she is freakin' HUGE. I'll try to post some pics of her with the other girls so you can see.

I'm torn between not believing how big she is and thinking by now she would look/act more like a rooster.

My car will be FULL for NJ, but the Northeast Poultry Congress is in Mass, at the Big E, January 19-20.
It's a great show, and alot of people went there armed with carriers to just buy birds.
Vera and I were sold out before the show even started.
You can't sell unless you are an exhibitor....
So I can bring them up for you, OR, just enter anything so you can sell out all your unwanted birds.

Ok that sounds good. Hopefully I only hatch one Roo.
( I just jinxed myself) I know I will have homes for all
the girls but only JersyHen wants a Roo so far.

I know it's mean but do you think a vet could remove
a Roos voice box? Or is that just wrong.

I have learned how to control time !!
Hatching eggs in incubator .......time SLOWS
No eggs....... time flys by :)

I didnt know Welsummer chicks were so easy
to sex at hatch. Huh. Makes me like them even
more.

Dont mind me, Just babbling

Very funny! I think my girls would say the same thing about the day before Christmas - it lasts 25 hrs not 24!

Ok my app is working now :)

Yes those are socks. The one thing I don't like about
my incubator is you fill it in rows of 6 eggs standing big
side up, when the auto turner turns the incubator if the
rows aren't full the eggs fall over. So new clean comfy
socks!

I'll have to name one of the chicks Socks. Lol

Love it! Yes that is a great name for a chicken. Although mostly our chickens have dirty socks on - or just plain Dirt socks.

I thought about doing that or caponizing to keep the one roo I had but there are few good reasons not to those operations. 1/Either of those are expensive as hell, 2/They are difficult to do correctly and it's easy for the bird to die, 3/They could be considered inhumane, and 4/this is just for Caponizing, they might still crow anyway. It's less expensive and easier to just find a new home for the roo's and get pullets instead.

That's Beatrice the Huge. She's a full 3 weeks younger than Lavinia on the left, and the same age as Helen behind her. Please tell me if she were a roo, I'd know it by now. She was hatched 5/25.

After my recent lecture to the gals telling them they need to start laying more eggs, we put a light on a timer. It goes on at 5pm and off at 9:30pm. It must be working, today we got 4 eggs! Woo hoo!Thought you might enjoy the pics...
