I've been looking at the Radars. Oy. I do not need this Sandy mess.

I've put together a small list of emergency things to do- if anyone is like me, I need a list in front of me when in panic mode.

They're saying wide spread long term power outages, so peeps-you know what to do to save your frozen stuff! Freeze as many bottles of water as you can fit in the freezer, and fit them into every open nook in the freezer. Place some extras on top of things, to use in the fridge as well. The closer the stuff is together-the longer it will stay frozen, or cold.

Batteries!! Can't stress the importance of having TOO many of these. I always stick up until I say "I really don't need all of these durned things", then I get a few more. The silliest things need batteries.
Fill the car gas tank. Too expensive? I know, but if there's an evacuation-those stations will already be shut down. Out here-with the size of the storm-this is a REAL possibility. The other possibility is that the gas stations won't be opening for awhile (They need electricity too) unless you have one of those old old old gas stations that has manual pumps.

Pasta, bottled water, and canned sauce. These are things that last fore a very long time. Make sure you have enough.

Fill all prescriptions if they are going to run out soon. Pharmacies are all on computers and they cannot refill you without accessing your records.

Along the same lines-keep some cash on hand-ATM's credit cards will be useless.

Tape the windows and glass doors. Bring all things that could become airborne, inside. use masking tape. Duct tape will leave impossible to remove gummy gook on your windows. After taping, pull drapes once the storm arrives-even blinds will help if your windows blow in.

If you have a fire place for heat-bring in all the wood you're gonna need. That includes kindling. They're saying we could get some snow with this. Be ready to keep warm. Blankets, sweatshirts, warm socks-simple things. Make them accessible.

Flashlights, lanterns and candles. Have lots. Walmart sells double packs for something like 4 dollars. I have loads of these for camping. I'll be checking them and replacing batteries. I also have 2 of those big battery operated lanterns. Good to eat dinner by or play games with the kids (or adults) Monopoly saved my sanity last year. the kids were happy and occupied.

Lighters! Those long candle lighting lighters are a lifesaver as well. I use them for everything and keep several extras around my house. You can also light the stove with them!!

I'm sure most of you know all of these things, but I think I just helped myself by making a list of stuff I need to check on as well. Please-everyone stay safe and if you lose power, please check in as soon as you can. We all can feel better if we know everyone is ok.

I'm going shopping early this morning-just a few more basics. I also need extra dog food, cat food, bird food and chicken food. (I think that's all the animals I have...) OH fish food? No-I have enough fish food. My fireplace insert is being installed today, so I have to be done and home by 11:30. With football all weekend, and shopping for my middle guys birthday on Tuesday (last one in October! YAY!) today is the only day for stocking up some more.

Great list, Rosie! My FEMA manager approves.

Check on your parents or other relatives to make sure they know this storm is coming
Buy a pack of paper plates and plastic cups
I never get crazed about storms but this one has me on edge for some reason
Reassure your kids that everything is going to be OK. I know my niece is a little worry wort.
If I'm getting people crazed on here I'll stop
Hey Al and Mrs. Are you OK?

My hens were making a racket so I checked on them.
My broody hatched a chick (girl) other eggs in progress.
It was so kewl how they were all around the broody hutch
clucking. I don't now if they were trying to welcome it into the
world or if they are mad about it the way they were caryin on

They're just letting you know you're a Grandma!

Don't forget to make sure al least one BBQ bottle is full.
Or alot of places have charcoal on sale.
I rather have a burger off the grill than some sorry other shiRt.
Going out to get a few extra bags of feed.
Ya never know...

I have Mareks vaccine. Working on needles.
NY we need prescriptions. sigh.

But I do have needles that will work, just a little long.

Remember once the bottle is activated, it's only good for an hour or two.
As far as I know, it's still backordered. I have 3 sets if you want one let me know.
Doc Brown is supposed to call me this am.

And once you use it, everything needs to be incinerated.
Vera takes care of that where she works.
These are "live" vaccines and can wreak havok if not properly disposed of.

I can think of a few people I'd like to wage biological warfare on...

Now you've got me thinking.

I have a short list...

Well, my kids asked me what we'll do if the lights go out. I told them, "I'll be crocheting, you'll be leaving me alone".

They didn't really laugh. Like all of a sudden the lights go out, and they want to spend time with me? Yeah, that must be like the phone. If it's on my ear, I'm immediately irresistible.

So, I went shopping for my batteries, the little one talked me into allowing him to get 2 lunchables (Just in case, yanno) and I bought some vegetarian soup for my daughter. I'm considering making some lentil soup to can. I wonder how that would work. Anyone? Anyone? As I was leaving the store (this was at 8am, before my little ones bus) I swear cars were screeching into the parking lot and people were RUNNING into the store. I guess they saw the news.

One woman had 2 carts behind her. I'm just glad that even though I can walk to the beach in 10 minutes, I'm WAAAAY above sea level. I'm also glad I got to the store before the rest of town got there. There was still water (LOADS) on the shelves. I'm betting by now-there's none. I save all water bottles we use, so with my filtered tap, I just refill them and reuse them.

So, now I'm stuck waiting for the fireplace guy to get here, and install my insert. I'm quite excited about it. I know, deep in my soul, that my sons will be so happy to bring in a half cord of wood tonight and tomorrow. They totally live for this stuff. (How much you wanna bet they're going to get quite ill right after football? Completely incapacitated) But my husband will be home tomorrow until 3 when he goes into the firehouse, so he can "encourage them" to do it.

My daughter went out and bought Angel (small vicious maltese) a new pink sweater, hot pink. We'll never convince people that she's dangerous with this thing on her. It's VELOUR with a HOOD, that SPARKLES. But I shaved her down to a short puppy cut so, she's gonna need it.

Well, back to crocheting until the guys get here!

Well now you need to name at least one of them Sandy!

I have to admit listening to you L.I. peeps I am left again wondering why y'all choose to live out there on that sandy spit of traffic congestion.... we get some flooding here but not the same types of wind damage. I already brought in all the flying around yard stuff but I'm done. We splurged on a full size generator this summer because of the old trees in our neighborhood. Too many outages finally ****** off my DH enough to buy it. Of course I'm the one in the family that relishes power outages and the like. I might just go flip the circuit breaker and force everyone to play board games by candlelight anyway!
