Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

You people are wonderful. So supportive and helpful.

We too are very lucky. No damage, just cleanup. We still have no power, but we have a generator to keep things powered for a few hours a day. And we even managed to solve the Mom problem.

Made a great flashlight meeting tonight.

Now I'm sitting by the fire for a few more minutes of tv before we kill the power. Then it's crocheting by candlelight with an audiobook on my ipod. Life is good!

Well we have no power, and I probably only have 1 minutes with reception but someone sent me this picture and I think you'll all love it

Hi all, a quick note to say we are all safe. 4 out 5 family's houses have bad water damage, with my parents the worst. They are living with us now. Two huge dogs and one parrot. So crazy right now. In pc Richard at the moment ordering new appliances with my
Mom. so sad for her and my dad. We are all so exhausted, as I'm sure everyone else is too. Chickens weathered the storm fine. Though did see 2 birds circling them yesterday. 1 turkey vulture and a hawk. I don't have service at home so I won't be on again for a while until we get Internet back. Good luck everyone. This gas shortage is nuts. Hope you are all safe and out harm's way

survived sandy but it is devasting all around me. I can't even talk about it. just got electric this morning and cell service is on but spotty at best. I feel very lucky but some family members weren't so........... all I can say is she was a small sunami and washed people away....who coulda known?????............good-bye to storm sandy ...and good riddence.

Red Cross finally arrived here last night...why so long I wonder people are hungry.......i'll let the news fill you in with what is happening here.
stay well everyone...............maggie

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with those of you affected by this terrible storm. I am watching the news now, and it is heartbreaking to see the devastation. Tina

My chickens are so mean today. They keep attacking the dogs.
I had to lock them up in the run so the dogs can use the yard.
Something's backwards here. Most people have to worry about
dogs killing the chickens. My dogs are petrified of the chickens.
Haahaaa Ha!

Godspeed Maggie, to you and yours. I moved up to Dutchess County 2 years ago from Long Island. Lots of friends all over affected. We had down trees and no power, but nothing like you had to endure. I pray for everyone effected by Mother Nature. She gives us so much, and I stand humbled by her power, and by the amazing generosity of human nature. Blessings to all.

If anyone needs to come take a hot shower, do some laundry, etc. bring the kids. I live in East Islip. I'm sure the kids are going through video withdraw, my sons room is sitting empty. Thing is they have to know how to turn it on. Please let me help. Carol
Be safe everyone

One of my friends from water aerobics was called to go help with the aftermath of the storm. She is a volunteer for the Red Cross. I am going to training tomorrow, so if they need more people after this bunch come home, maybe I would be one of the next bunch.

Hope everyone can stay warm and dry.

Maggie, so glad to finally hear from you! I have been in tears hearing about the devastation on Staten Island. And up here - two families lost people due to falling trees. So sad. Now apparently we are all beating each other up at the gas pumps! I filled my tank before the storm so I'm good for another few days I hope. Today they finally took down the trees leaning on power lines over the roads near my house so I can drive out of the neighborhood without holding my breath. I tried to clean everything within reach today and ending up just making a tiny dent. Then I heard on the radio someone describing having a neighbor's kayak in their backyard.... a refrigerator... I think a few sticks is minor in comparison. In the mean time I am getting the giggles at all the robo calls from our Mayor, who has a very direct way of speaking. "How you doin, this is your Mayor Ron"

We tried to cook hot dogs in the fireplace last night but the only one that enjoyed that experiment was the dog who stole all the rolls while we were distracted. Then we watched Toy Story 3 and oldest daughter and I ended up crying and laughing at the very end at the same time; I think it has been just a roller coaster of a week.

Thank you to all that have offered help, whether we can reach each other or not it is the compassion that fills my soul to hear it. We have a good bunch here.

Muchas smoochas,
Heather
