Spiders and snakes (don't come if your paranoid of them, because there are pics) Come over Redhen!

I got bit by what I think was one of these big garden spiders a few years back. got me just above the lip while mowing. (I'm 6'5" so it was up high) anyways the lip skin turned yellow then the center of the bite turned black ( necropsie) the skin died and it scared.

Golden orb spider. One of my favorites.
Great photo of "Miss Muffet" and friend. heehee
If you only knew...that spider was planning on how to take down that little girl...just waiting till an adult turned their heads..
Lol, That's my daughter Ana. She thought the spider was really neat, but it took some convincing to get her to stand near it. That was as close as she would get!

How did it manage to bite you there? Did you walk through its web in between two trees?

I was on a riding mower, I was mowing between a bunch of Russian olive trees, just a big enough gap to pass through for me and the machine. I figured it was taking a break from the sun near a leaf on the edge of one of the branches I brushed against as I went through. I see tons of these and goblin like spiders every year. the goblins are real gnarly looking and about twice the size. they make a web about 8' wide the garden spiders make webs about 4-5 wide

Wow. Probably it was not expecting a huge, roaring monster to come through its tranquil territory!

Besides golden orb spiders, we see a lot of brown garden spiders. Those are the ones that get about the size of a pinky fingernail, but make beautiful, "classic" spider webs that can be huge. One made a web across my (wide) front steps, from railing to railing and I felt bad having to take it down. When they catch the morning dew they're stunningly gorgeous.

If anyone here has ever seen a fishing spider, now THAT'S a gnarly one! They are huge (l've seen ones with 4" leg-span) and hairy. The "hairs" help them walk on water by trapping air bubbles that keep them skating on the surface skim of the water) and they make enormous webs down close to the water's surface on streams and brooks, and they work like fishing nets. The spiders are fast, too. Boy, can they scoot. They eay small fish and frogs, bugs, and whatever they get their nasty fangs into.
