Spiders and snakes (don't come if your paranoid of them, because there are pics) Come over Redhen!

One of my favorite spiders is the Golden Silk Spider, sometimes called the Banana Spider because of its large yellow abdomen.

The silk they make is YELLOW! Here's some cloth made from it:

Many years ago, Sourland walked into a colony of these creatures.

It was all the Princess's fault. I still have the nightmares.

Do I want to know how it was the Princess's fault? Somehow, I'm picturing Alfred Molina in Raiders of the Lost Ark here.

In my yard, you'd have to have been on stilts to get into the banana spiders. The writing spiders make their webs near ground level, but for some reason, the banana spiders build a bit higher - around 8 feet up. Nice thing, too. I may enjoy looking at 'em, but I sure don't want 'em crawling on me!

We were in Hawaii visiting an old resort where we had once stayed. The little hut that was 'ours' was all dilapidated and surrounded by tropical growth loaded with those big old spiders. The Princess kept saying, "Get cloer to the door so that I can get a good photograph." Those big old spiders were bouncing in their webs and saying, "Come on closer so that we can bite your butt."

Found out later that she had upped my life insurance.

Maybe there are different types of 'banana' spiders. I just did a search on 'banana spiders poisonous' and came up with mixed results. Some said poisonous - some said not. Even showed some FOOL with spiders walking on him.
