Ugh,... no way.. you SEE those fangs!!??

One of my favorite spiders is the Golden Silk Spider, sometimes called the Banana Spider because of its large yellow abdomen.

The silk they make is YELLOW! Here's some cloth made from it:

Now thats kinda cool...
But still...
Silk wont be of any use if yur dead. Unless its a shroud... which is probably WHY they make the silk in the first place..:/

OK, I think my Mom has the names mixed up. The golden silk spider AKA: Banana spider is NOT deadly, BUT the Brazilian wandering spider AKA: Banana Spider is DEADLY. They are not the same; the Golden Silk Spider is known as Banana Spider because of it's color, yet, the Brazilian wandering spider is known as Banana spider because it lives mainly in banana's.

Yes, and they come over in the crates of bananas sometimes... i have had grocery store people tell me this..

There are some really marvelous pictures of jumping spiders here.

Its those jumping ones that freak me out the most...
They actully jump on you to try to kill you...
Can you imagine the EVIL tenacity to jump on something as huge as a human (when you're only like 3 inches big)..
I'm telling ya....little psychopaths...
And they LIVE in your house with you!!! :barnie :hit

And,.. and ,.. AND,.. just LAST night hubby and i were sitting up in bed and he gets all alert and jumps up and starts smacking the bedcovers at the foot of the bed...
Guess WHAT was IN MY BED!!!?? (it was a black one.. not sure what kind.. probably a dam black widow.. :/ )
Yeah....

Red, it wouldn't have been a Black Widow. They avoid us as much as possible. Besides you'l usually see their spikey looking eggs sacks before you see them. Actually lately I've had problems with a cousin of the arachnids, scorpions! I hate them, their stings feel like you've been stuck with a red hot poker. And the burning lasts up to six hours, and I've been stung eight times over the last three weeks. So I've declared war, I hate using insecticides but I needed to get some sleep. Yep, stung in my bed.

Geez, JD, rattlesnakes and now scorpions? Never dull at your place, is it?

We have our share of venomous snakes and spiders here, of course. From the time they were very small, I have told the kids never to put their hands or feet anywhere that they can't see. That isn't enough when it comes to fire ants. We had them invade the house one time. They may not sting like scorpions, but it is still hard to sleep when they find you. Fortunately, their mounds usually aren't hard to find!

I can stand snakes. At least I can kill them. But spiders? *shiver* After being bitten three times, one of which sent me to the ER with a red streak up my arm and only allowed me 2 1/2 hours of sleep, and can't stand the little brats.
Now that I have said my piece, I flee.
*shudder*
