I am using Quicken, but have also done this with a spreadsheet using Excel. But, really you can do it with pencil and columnar paper. I start with the fixed income and expenses, such as salary, house payment, car payment, utilities, etc. Then I estimate living expenses, and I base this on what's left after the fixed expenses. A budget means you can't just buy whatever you want all the time. You choose to spend X dollars on food and sundries and stick to it. Don't forget things like gas and auto maintenance. Make sure there is budget for gifts, clothes, shoes, and any other thing you know you will need to buy throughout the year. Some of those things I might only spend seasonally, but I will spread it out over the year evenly, and then leave those amounts in savings until needed. Always budget your savings goal. If you get Quicken, it will help you through a lot of this work. Well, that's a sketchy idea of how to do it. Feel free to ask specific questions.

I just need to find a way to save, that's the hardest part for me of everything. maybe now that I have a farm vision in my mind it will be a lot easier for us to save in the new year than it was any of the other years.

We got a bearded dragon in need today. The store manager at Petco brought it to the vet and rehabilitated it. He offered it to me with a complete bearded dragon setup for a donation to their charity! I'm so excited!

We named him Groot

Here is my magnificent boy this morning. He's becoming quite the love of my life. He has been taking such good care of the chicks. I'm really happy I kept Squatch, he's such an amazing cockerel.

For New Year’s Eve My hubby and I are having a couple friends over for a Starwars marathon. We are going to make pizzas and have movie snacks too.

Yes I did. I liked it a lot but wish they tied up loose ends better than they did. I won’t say what in particular though because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it yet.

Mine started with a crazy chicken chase in my jammies...then a mad dash to Costco on what I would say was their busiest day of the year...home again to collapse in a heap!
