Try not to rub it in too much

And frostbite must get into the bone, that´s how people lose their fingers and toes, surely...poor gander. I imagine that lack of circulation could be a big threat to him. Warm baths and plenty of excerise in them must be just what´s needed.

You know, I´ve been following the threads and I´m just so glad I don´t have to worry about those terrible winter conditions any more...and psue, when your season starts, and your heart IS into the hatching again, mine will be resting!

Now, I´m just watching them grow. The rainy season has definitely arrived, the grass is lush......and so it´ll be for a few months. And when it´s too hot outside or chucking it down, I´ll be reading and learning about all the latest challenges, triumphs and fun you all will have.

I hope your right.
But hatching season for me will be bittersweet this year. Finger's crossed that I'll get babies from my late husband's Dewlap flock this year. He wanted so much to live long enough to see them. But that was not to be.

Paulla, I agree it will be bittersweet to start hatching season next spring, but I hope once you have a baby dewlap in your hands, you will feel only love and joy. Jerry will be watching over you and the babies to be.

Spirit had a really good bath session last night and I'm starting to believe he will fully recover.

J it is good to hear Spirit is swimming nicely and having good sessions swimming. I feel so badly for Spirit because he has to go through so much pain and problems. But having you as his momma he is in excellent hands!!!! Give a big hug and kiss to Spirit for me J....... Here is to you and Spirit.

Sorry, I didn´t know about your husband. I see what you mean about the bitter-sweet. It´ll be hard for you at times, but everyone on here seems to be great and will give you lots of encouragement. And there´s nothing that makes us laugh as much as watching little animals, be they with fluff or with feathers....

it's alright, not everyone knows. But several on here are/were friends with both my husband and myself, It's a great bunch of people that will be there to celebrate babies with me. Personally the adults are just as funny as the babies... even if they pretend that they are above all that

A bit like people, eh?

Actually, I quite agree. For instance, this week the feeding sessions are getting noisier now with the goslings joining in the scrum, and the ganders and the geese are seeing the other families off, and the chickens, and the ducks...so I chuck the corn far and wide to try to keep it calm down there. The geese are getting braver along with the goslings and have started chest-bashing some of the muscovies to get the corn.

However, I also have a particularly stroppy muscovy duck who´s sitting on 2 eggs (just to keep her entertained). She comes out of her little hole and has a go at everybody! The ganders have been quite taken by surprise. There´s this crazy duck hanging onto their tail feathers!

She picks on the geese, ganders and other ducks. What a diva she is! So I have to get down to her nest quickly, chuck some corn down for her, then call all the geese after me to chuck it about for them further down, and the little brahma chicks do suicide missions along with the other ducks running the gauntlet between the geese. They have plenty that I put down for them in a different area, but they seem to enjoy the sport!

The geese are fine really, they´re pilgrim-type, so pretty mild, which of course the duck takes advantage of! I´ll be glad when she has her ducklings, then she´ll go off with them in the marsh.
