I am a new chicken mama with 8 chicks arriving sometime around 3/25. My 4yr old and I had a hard time selecting but settled on the following... I wanted 6 but chicken math took over and we are going with 8.. 8 is our city ordinance limit based on our lot size.. :(

My daughter already preemptively named them all already.
Im still not sure if my husband realizes they are coming..

Nice breed choices! And cute names :)

I've been told you may have to watch out for your lone polish. Other birds tend to pick on them because they are different. Hopefully though if you raise them together it wont be an issue

I've heard/read this too.. We are hoping for the best!

I think they will probably be okay if raised together, especially since you seem to have a lot of more timid/non confrontational breeds in the order rather than bossy, bully type breeds so I think you should be okay. I might be worried if you had more bossy breeds

Anyone getting spring chicks this year!? I placed my order about a week and a half ago and I am impatiently waiting! Lol I am getting 5 chicks from Meyer Hatchery with a hatch date of April 29th and I am so excited!!! We already have 7 chickens from Meyer Hatchery and I love them. They just turned 3 in October. I am excited to meet the new little babies. April can’t come soon enough! Lol

We currently have 1 Barred Rock, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Easter Eggers.

The new chicks are one each of Speckled Sussex, Delaware, Easter Egger, White Leghorn, and Partridge Rock.

Sooo excited. :D

Anyone else getting chicks this spring!?
We are getting ours Valentine's Day. 1 of each...Buff O, Barred R, EE, and Bl Astr. Broader is set up and We are so excited!

I made the sad choice of ordering from ideal poultry. They don’t overnight to the Midwest in winter! So sad.
Poor chicks :( I ordered from them many times with only 2 DOA, but they went from TX to California and usually just took 1 day to get there

I just checked the breed list for 2019 at our local feed store and they are apparently getting New Hampshire’s.... very tempting... it is about a month earlier than my other chick order though so idk if that would work, they would be way older than the others, plus I am going to AZ that week :( maybe I should call Meyer’s and see if they could add one to my order :p

That sounds perfect! I love holding them but mine don’t always like being held lol

Aw that’s awesome! Seems I definitely need to get some lol
lol I 'm also oing to AZ in March and prefer iced tea or iced coffee over hot coffee too

Well mine are araucanas!!!!
4 eggs she far 2 today and 2 yesterday!!!
I have emptied the 2 first ones and the 2 second ones I have put under my broody hen!!!!
Congrats! Have you candled?

I think there is one other person going there in March too. Seems it’s a popular destination and time lol where are you going in AZ? And I don’t usually drink much besides water lately (I’m so boring lol) but I loveeee iced tea when I do drink it lol I love the big Arizona cans but any iced tea is good. I love the half & half from Arnold Palmer, half lemonade, half iced tea. Don’t like the taste of coffee. I used to like sodas but it kind of hurt my throat and stomach sometimes so now I just don’t drink it.

I'm going to Gilbert, my dad's family lives there. You? Same here about water and I've never really liked carbonated drinks.

We are going to Phoenix. There is a concert on the 26th and my birthday is on the 31st so we are going the whole week, possibly a week and a half. But I don’t think we will stay in Phoenix the whole time, I think we might try to go to the Grand Canyon and some other cities around there and/or possibly maybe California or something too but maybe not

Oh and when I was drinking the carbonated drinks, I don’t really like most of them either but I do love a good Coke every once in a while or a root beer float lol

I was born in Phoenix. I think you're arriving around the time I'm leaving. I will also be visiting my mom in Calif. but before going to AZ.

I actually let soda defizz before I drink it which DH thinks is gross lol
