Spring Granny Square Swap

Cane - last year was a bad year for cats around here. Stubby had to be put to sleep, Puff got hit by a car and our neighbors cats got poisoned. We now only have DD's cat Norma Jean. She stays in doors.

I've two rows of eggs to candle. Candled most last night tossed three. My turner is missing a row so three eggs were laying in the space. Two were good so now there are spots for all the eggs in the turner. Missing a row helps control the number of eggs. I think I will be running another hatch after this one of just Delaware eggs. Or mostly Delaware eggs. Most of the ones in this hatch I expect to sell.

Take care everyone and have a nice day. Snowed here and I have coops to build. I hate the cold, makes my knees hurt everytime I go out to water the birds.

Will do some more squares later. Have 23 done. How many do we need? I'd like to do two batches if I can. Well of course I can I just need to get to work.

GOOD MORNING my crochet swap friends~

Rancher & Writer~ I hate dropping eggs no matter what kind they are.

Sorry that happened to both of you. One slipped out of my hand yesterday at collecting time and landed in a splat right in the middle of the coop floor where there just happened to not be any shavings to cushion the fall. The girls jumped on it immediately surrounding it in a full circle and slurped it up before I could even pick it up. I hate that b/c I think it encourages egg eating. I laughed though when it happened b/c I thought of both of you. Kate I think it's hilarious that your kitties cleaned up your mess. I didn't know cats could have a taste for eggs.

Betty~ I hope your hatch went well.

I'm sorry you didn't get to see your granddaughter.

Sunny~ THANK YOU for the precious baby chick fix!!!

I don't think I would be able to keep my hands off them either. I think I'm closer to getting new chicks this season. Just need to talk to DH some more.

Canesisters~ That is so cool that your kitty babies are so spoiled to have their own crocheted blankets. DD took one look at her old scrap blanket that our cat Marion lays on and said I should make her a real one.

It was just a short mile a min practice pattern that I put together and never even edged it.

dascountry~ I hope you are staying warm. OMG... all that snow. Glad your babies faired through your power outage.

I didn't crochet all last week, but hope to focus on it this weekend. Last weekend I worked on finishing a promised head hugger beanie for one of DD's friends. I started my brother in-laws head hugger, but ran out of yarn before I was finished. I picked up some more yesterday along w/ requested colors by my nephews. I'll alternate between beanies and swaps when I get a free moment this weekend.

HAPPY SATURDAY.......

I think I must have missed a few posts somewhere! No granddaughter visit and no power? So sorry to you both!

I'm very bad about posting and being specific about who I'm talking to but I meant you Kate when I asked if they were hatching eggs. That would be an expensive loss if they were. Very funny story though. Stuff that that always happens to me when I get too rushed too.

All done with the middle parts of my squares now starting on the second color.

Sounds like your fingers are flying!!!

What a great idea to do all the centers first and then move on to the next color. I think I'll try that next if I can settle on a color combo.

The squares are in the mail. There are 71 for the swap and 18+yarn, mailed separately, for Writer's students. I admit there was a greedy thought when I realized there were enough for an afghan. I guess I'll make an afghan after I move.

We'll help you make an afghan if you would like.

The hatch didn't do well. Only three hatched and some weren't fertile and others died about a week before hatch time. No idea why.

Squares are coming along. I want to alert everyone now while I can. If I'm suddenly not online for about a week it will be because my husband and I have left for Kansas/Missouri. My husbands 99 year old sister is in a coma and not expected to live. Hospice says she can pass any time now. My husband hasn't decided for sure if he wants to fly back for the funeral but his 95 year old sister is bound to want him there. I am prepared with whatever his decision is. I've called about prices on airfare and my neighbor will care for my dog and chickens if we go. I wanted to let all of you know so you wouldn't wonder if I got blown away in one of our wind storms. I'll post when I'm leaving and when I'll be back if I can. Keep hooking everyone.....

Sorry to hear about your Sister in-law. Thinking about you and your family.

It's never easy to lose a loved one no matter how full of life you've known they've lived.

Betty- Take care. you'll be missed here if you go to the funeral, and helping our families at times like this is good to do. Try not to get blown away by a tornado.

Betty and Kate- It is very kind and sweet of you to offer to help with a housewarming afghan. I'm moved practically to tears. It's not something I'd ask for, but if you want to do it, I'd treasure it. It probably wouldn't be appropriate to do via a public forum, but we might be able to do it somehow between friends who happen to be chicken-loving hookers.
