Spring Granny Square Swap

barnie.gif

I just realized all my squares are only 5", BUT I just have to go around them one more time and they will be 6". I only have 12 done so it's no big deal really.

I may switch to a bigger sized needle. I don't know how that happened but such is life.

Maybe I can figure out how to do one more row of petals on the new ones. .

If you look up Bead Crochet or Bead Tube Crochet on youtube, you will find tutorials on how the bracelet is done. It is very simple once you get it started... that is the hard part... starting them. All beads get strung first (I use either cotton or bamboo thread or C-lon) so if you have a pattern, you have to be very careful to ensure they are in the right order. Then you crochet them in the round... however many around you want. That bracelet is a pattern of 4 different colored beads and crocheted 5 around. That is the first time I had used long magatama beads, I typically use size 8/0 seed beads. Basically, you do a slip stitch putting one bead in place at a time. Threading the beads is the most time consuming part. :)

The earrings... you start with a crochet circle and increase and decrease and put a wood bead (whatever size you want) inside and crochet around until it is covered. I have now seen beaded crochet beads (beads are crocheted around a wooden bead) and I want to learn how to do that next!

Sunny~ Thank you! Glad you like the colors. They were the only ones I had on hand before going to the store and I was itching to get started. Actually found some more yarn when I dug deeper in my stash. Still not sure what pattern or color combo's I will use. Need to play around w/ them some more. I was disappointed in the lack of selection of yarn & colors yesterday at JoAnn's, so didn't buy too much. I'll be making another run else where at another time.

Kreativkat~ I didn't realize the bracelet was a product of crocheting until I went back to read the description. Very unique! Impressive as well as the earrings. Where did you get the patterns?

Writer~ You can tell your students that at least they are learning how to read the direction of the patterns. That's fantastic! Nobody taught me how to read them when I learned as a child and I didn't learn how until about 4 yrs ago and I'm still learning. I fumble through reading the dreaded abbreviations all the time. I still have things come out all lopsided and don't know where I go wrong.

Rancher~ Love your squares! Very pretty color combos. They are fantastic!

Oh I bet just a sc edging all around will fix them right up! One of the patterns I picked last yr was a 5" square, so I just would add one more round to make them 6".

That's cool you have 12 complete even if you do have to add a little more to them. Woohooo!!!! Good for you! I only have 2 down and 19 to go. Whew!

I tried a new pattern this morning and will post a pic of it later.

I can be very picky and if I don't like I'll stay up all night to get it right.. I once pulled out the whole panel on an afghan cuz it had one minor mistake. That's why I like granny squares. Not much to undo and redo.

lol I'm with ya there! I just finished a baby blanket for a granddaughter and I yanked out a whole bunch of it at the end because I noticed a mistake. There is one other mistake though. On one of the first round of popcorn stitches I left off one cluster. Don't know how this happened but it's bugging the heck out of me and evryone has been yelling at me to "step away from the blanket" because I want to tear the whole thing apart to fix that one spot! DD says I have to leave one mistake in each blanket to show it's handmade.

Love the new squares Rancher! I'm pretty sure that Betty had stated early on that a little white was fine but she can clarify when she comes back on.

Thanks for the tips and directions to tutorials Kat! When life gets less hectic I want to try that!!!

Been there, done that! Oh how I hate to have to rip out my hard work, but sometimes it has to be done. Over the holiday I tried a new beanie head hugger pattern I wanted to make a friend for her B-day, but it came out soooooooo small. It looked fine, but more like a child's size, so I didn't pull it out, but made a new one. I figure I can give it to one of my friend's kids. I give my lopsided squares to my DD and she usually creates stuff with them. LOL!!!

Just wanted to stop by and get my nightly dose of crochet chat. I hope everyone has a wonderful night!

Colder here but water in the runs looked liquid. What we got I wouldn't call snow. Just a dusting. I've only use the snowblower once this year.

Chicks are hatching and so far 3 CR's from GA. A few more have started and I'll give them until tomorrow when I'll have to pull the others out. I like to give them the three days they can go before needing to eat and drink. All my EE's and some of the Dels have hatched too. It's the shipped CR's that concern me. I don't worry to much about my own.

I'm trying to keep this thing going so here are the amended squares, which I think look nice too. I will be buying more yarn though. Now if anyone needs a 20% off from Joanns let me know and I'll forward the coupon too you just pm me your e-mail. First one to pm me for it gets it. I'm not sure it's valid more than once but I can send it around.

I'm trying to keep this thread going.

ta, ta for now,

Rancher~ Congratulations on your chicks hatching!!!!
