"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

I'm really behind on the thread... Sorry guys. I have been struggling really badly with headaches lately and it's been tough to be online. I think I killed all my eggs for Easter Hal. Coolerbator is coming along. Got the glass on and holes drilled. Waiting on a fan to come in the mail and time that I can concentrate.

Sorry you having these headaches. I hope they stop soon!

Everyone have a great day!

Thanks again for the warm welcome Sally! My fingers were twitching so bad to set eggs.....especially since spring has come so early out here.

So question- if using distilled water for humidity purposes, does one need to throw in copper pennies too? Just opened up a new bottle the other day to partially fill up the water well, but wondering about the bacterial content in that jug and how quickly it grows/ or allows water bacteria to take over. This is my 1st attempt at correcting my mistakes from last year, so I've read Sally's Hatching 101 guide a gazillion times- hoping to be more successful this time around.

which bator are you using? can you get away from using bottom wells and use something up top to control until lockdown? I dont think it matters if you do or dont with distilled, If I use the bottom wells I make sure I only put enough it that it will dry out in a day or two so I can adjust it if necessary

See below in the tips and tricks links

I would think that distilled water when bought would be safe without boiling, otherwise just boil a quart and put in a clean steril bottle.
your avy is lovely!!!

Are you talking about the sexing egg link. It's a study that I participated in that lazygardner is doing... You have to compare eggs from the same hen... The theory is that the more rounded the egg is in comparison to the like eggs of the same hen in a medium sized range will hatch a higher pullet rate.

Don't really have much for tips... I've just been doing what I've done with the chicken eggs, except with a bit higher humidity and manually turning!! I've kept my humidity ~40% the entire incubation. Until lockdown of course. I have 3 external pips when I left for work this morning!! Yay!

Awwww I love the duckies!!! Ancona? Mixed?
