The kids just went home, and now that it is quiet, I hear some peeping!!! We have internal pipping! Woo hoo!

I see 3 pips!

That's great that you are hatching in your class!

It is so much fun! Hatching chicks is so exciting for me to begin with, watching my students see it happen is priceless!!!!

My first ever pip? Should I start playing sounds of chicks peeping?

Gorgeous chicks & hen! I just hatched out 2 chocolate cuckoo orps too. Do they always have the yellow spot on the back of the head? One of mine does and one doesn't.  I guess I should ask the person I got the eggs from!

Does that mean it's a boy?

Now that I have three pips I'm wondering - how long from pip to zip? Does it vary a LOT or are we talking about a few hours difference?

It can be up to 24 hours. Yes, it can vary a lot! Be patient.

oh my gosh yes this takes forever I've been to the basement a dozen times already! Man good exercise.... why did I put them in the basement????? Lol

Well Day 21 was Monday morning. My first-graders just went home for the day, and now that it is quiet, I hear peeping!!!! So they are later than they were supposed to be, but hopefully we will have some chicks by morning, or tomorrow! I'm so relieved! My students were so excited, and I did not want to break their hearts! Tomorrow will be a very exciting day in our classroom! I'm wondering if my little Brinsea was running cool, and that was why it took a bit longer. The thermometer inside does show about 95.5 rather than the 99.5 the incubator is set at. I may have to up it a bit for the next hatch. I am just so relieved that we have peeps! Yippee!!!!

I'm on Day 22 + 12 hours. That 's pretty late for the beginning of internal pipping, but I'll take it!

Hang in there, it is so worth it! The zip usually goes pretty quickly once it starts!
