"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

I have one of my EE's almost out of the shell !!!

I never thought I would get this excited about something. It's like I'm a little kid at Christmas. Three of my grandkids are stying with us tonight. My (almost) 7 yo grandson has been coming over to write down temp and RH numbers each day. Up to now he's said that science (this is his science project) is "boring." But now that we have some pips and some activity, he's more excited about it. Grandpa's hearing is not so good, but Justice's hearing is excellent and he says we have peeping. First time in a long time he was interested in something besides a video game.

So I have a hen that lays eggs far and few between. She layed one today. Would I be able to set it and put it on lockdown at the same time as the others? They are only 2 days older...these are serama eggs also. I normally lockdown on day 18

oh my gosh yes this takes forever I've been to the basement a dozen times already! Man good exercise.... why did I put them in the basement????? Lol

I know. Mine is not even in the same building. Up to now it has been kind of boring (my grandson is right), but now it's getting exciting (eggciting?).

Ugh! So I was filling up the water in the incubator. It is really jam packed...I went to get the water cup to fill it for the humidity and cracked an egg when I put it back! It was a very valuable egg from my friends flock. Then I went to set the egg I got from the hen that never lays, in that spot...and it cracked! So that means my bator says I'll have to set more next month...right?
(My friend is so kind, she offered one of the "millions" of chicks she has from that trio since I cracked one. Chicken friends are fantastic!)

We had 3 chickens (1 Serama and 2 Silkies) all broody and sitting on one little egg at the same time. That's right, 3 chickens squeezed into 1 small basket. Well, they pushed it out of the nest and it was cold when we found it. We brought it in the house and candled it and it's still alive. My daughter and I decided it would be safer if we kept it in here. Just don't know when it will hatch. Looks like it will be soon.
