Standard bred Sumatras

I also think Coop has an idea. Infnityhrt your idea is good, but if we can break it down into the areas/ sections of the birds that would help. Specially after it has been discussed about. I know when I come to a breed thread, I read it from the beginning so I get all of the information that it has to offer (can make for a long read sometimes). I think it would make more sense to new people to the breed/ thread if an area of the bird is discussed and then pictures that show the good, bad, and ugly of that area like your idea Infintyhrt. How does this sound to everyone?

Well I liked Infnityhrt's idea indeed. It actually helps a lot better when you can talk in person though. We use to do that kind of thing with sheep and goats at meetings. Obviously getting a nice posed picture of a goat and or sheep are easier than a chicken. I am guessing the pictures do not do them any justice because of the picture quality. I will say the black does appear to have the closest resemblance to a pea comb, and I like that personally.

I guess if anyone would like to raise an area/section they would like to talk about. I would be interested. Maybe we can still do the 3 different birds again but instead compare one section or part like ramirezframing said?

How about we start at the top and work our way down.
We could start with beaks.....compare which ever pictures
folks want to share, access each one so folks can see what
is desirable and what needs to be worked on and why. We
can give thoughts and ideas without feeling like someone is
tearing apart the bird. I know my birds need some work and
good pointers will help me to go the right way with them.

Those Ideas sound great, maybe we'll try and get some front and side pics of just the heads sometime. and then we can just do heads, body shots are hard to get to do them justice and the black is actually molting.. so missing quite a few of his tail feathers right now. Then birds get excited when we go out to get pics also, so tails come up and hard to get a close up thats good. easier to get heads and feet, since we can hold them still LOL. We'll work on it. Pics from others would be great as well

Okay.......got some pictures. Please keep in mind the camera is an old Kodak digital
and the birds are a bit rough.....going into molt and all. I do keep separate breeding
pens but the roosters have been doing business this year so the hens look it too. So
here are my pictures of my birds for beaks....good, bad and ugly. Opinions please. Breed
or not and if so what to look for in a match?

Blue rooster....2 yrs old

Blue pullet

Blue hen....2 yrs old

Black pullet

Edit to add.......please ignore the picture dates.....had to replace the dang batteries and
the birds were NOT co-operating for pictures so they had to be held.

Like they each got little mug shots. So obviously trying to look at bird from a picture is no where near the real deal I bet. Asking a judge at a show would be the most ideal. However, below is the pictures from the standard again (I do feel in this case these picture are great to refer too, because they really do mean short stout beaks). The standard also calls out as I know you know for a well-curved beak too. The beak is the one area I normally do not cull heavily for YET. I got bigger things to attack first. As this is much like the throat and very minor if one feels it is off the description a bit. If we are just looking at the beak, and only the beak, we do have to compare it to the head for size. The real deal would probably give a different sense but just looking at them I feel the 2 year old blue hen has the shortest well curved beak of the group. The thing that appears to be lacking is the stoutness. I would say the thing that stands out the most on the beaks is the size and length the rest appear to have. They look powerful!

I am sorry if this is confusing, as I feel half asleep still.
