Enough already!

2 more hens were on the nest last night. That makes broody #5 and #6. The really scary part is 4 of these broodies are first time broodies! Most of my yearly broodies haven't gone broody yet.

One of the hens on the nest is Briet, my 3 or 4 year old Icelandic hen. The other is another Barnevelder. I hope my coop can hold all of these babies!

I feel your pain. The first three broodies I had this year abandoned their nest, I have four current broodies, two raising chicks and two expectant mothers.

Definitely NOT alone. I have a broody on Delawere eggs now too. Already had one earlier. Now another is going to set I hear her making that noise. I am not going to have room for all the broodies and chicks. I keep telling myself no more setting of eggs. Yeh!!!!!!!!

I've heard we've had a resurgence of this in Oklahoma lately. Scary stuff.

No. I luckily have never had to deal with ILT. This was reported in the newsletter from UCD. I would have no way to isolate vaccinated birds as my five coops/runs are just separated by chicken wire. That is interesting what they say about reversion to virulence. I guess we will continue doing what we do and hope we never have to deal with it. I was surprised that it was confirmed in five flocks though.

It is scary. I wonder where the more virulent strain came from? I will keep hatching eggs to keep mine less likely to get it.
